We just returned from the Valor Western Caribbean cruise. I've posted a long review under review's, so this is just a brief overview - please let me know if you have any questions.

Embarcation - Easy...got there at noon - was on the ship at 1pm. Long lines, but they kept moving.

Cabin - Balcony, Deck 8. Plenty of room and closet space. We were right near the glass elevators, so the room was always easy to find.

Food - Rueben's and Pizza great. Didn't eat at Rosie's. The food in the Main dining room was outstanding. Did eat at Scarlett's early in the week - food excellent, but the food and service in the main dining room (Washington) was so good there wasn't a need to spend the extra. Room service prompt - always came within the timeframe listed on the card we left out each night for the next morning.

Entertainment - Ron Pass at the piano bar was outstanding. The production shows were mixed - the 80's show was excellent, the other so-so. Comedians were great, especially their midnight shows. The hypnotist and magician were weak. The disco was hopping most nights, as was the kareoke bar. The casino was large, never unbearably crowded, and not stingy. Actually, we spent less time in this casino than on any other cruises - there was too much else going on at night...but the time spent was profitable. Rebbeca, the cruise director, was pretty much absent except to introduce the shows. On other cruises you would know the director if you saw him/her around the ship - I could have bumped into Rebbeca and have not recognized her. Things went smoothly, so I guess she was doing her job, but on the whole she was invisible.

Service - excellent - the best we've had on any cruise. All the staff went out of their way to get to know us and the ones working the venues we frequented got to know our names and preferences from day one. We were told that Carnival pays less than other lines, but have less restrictive rules, making for a happier crew....to be continued...

They called our color at 9:30 and we were at Miami airport by 11am. TIP - once you collect your luggage, get a porter. We paid $15 for 4 bags and he took us past a long line (waiting for customs) directly to a customs agent and then got us a van to the airport. The problem will arise at Miami airport. The lines waiting to check in were absurd - even the self serve was over an hour. We ended up using curbside and that took 20 minutes. I can't imagine what the security line was at that point. We had a 4pm flight, so we hung around the lobby bar until 1:30 it still took 1/2 hour.
