MzItaly79 Posted January 17, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2006 I just won Radisson Downtown Miami from Priceline for $100. Anyone stayed there and would like to leave comments I'd appreciate it. :) I've read some mixed reviews on some other sites but for $100 I THINK I did pretty good. TrentS Posted January 17, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2006 It's not in the best neighborhood, and is on top of a long closed shopping mall, but is only 5 minutes to the port, and for that price it's perfectly fine for a night.
MzItaly79 Posted January 17, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted January 17, 2006 thanks, we don't plan on doing much while we're there - maybe a island queen tour, that's about it so the neighborhood doesn't concern me too much. As long as the room is decent I'll be happy and it seems that some of the rooms have pretty nice views so that'll be a plus. :)
TrentS Posted January 17, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2006 Yeah, it's fine for a night and there are some great views... Just take a cab to Bayside if you want to do the boat tour, even though it's not that far, you don't want to attempt to walk it.

Bequia Posted January 17, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 17, 2006 MzItaly, Across the street from the Radisson is a Checkers Drive Thru restaurant. They've got the best chili dogs in town. ;) http://www.checkers.com/home.html

funcorn Posted January 17, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 17, 2006 Daughter & I stayed there a couple of years ago. The Monorail (free) is just a block away. Although I'm not sure about riding it at night, we rode it down to Bayside during the day--it was not crowded at all! There was a lady on there wishing all the mothers a "Happy Mother's Day". That was sort of neat (and different:)). The Checker's across the street also served breakfast, which was nice. Watching the sunset from the pool deck was beautiful. The surrounding neighborhood is sort of iffy, but the hotel itself was just fine.
MzItaly79 Posted January 18, 2006 Author #10 Share Posted January 18, 2006 Thanks funcorn, glad you enjoyed your stay there. Did your room have a nice view? I'm going to call them today to see if I can get a room with a King size bed and a nice view - we'll see. :)
funcorn Posted January 19, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 19, 2006 As I recall, there was A LOT of construction/revitalization going on at the time--some nice views of downtown/port from the pool side of the hotel. Interesting though--the lobby was on the 2nd or 3rd floor. When you come to the "front" of the hotel, you have the bellman desk and the parking deck entrance, then you go UP to the lobby (very nice--with a cool waterfall wall in it). We also walked over to the hotel across the street via an enclosed walkway accessible thru the parking garage. Once over there, there were some shops, a few restaurants, a liquor store, and access to a private dock/marina. The place was sort of deserted, though--maybe it was the location, but we felt perfectly safe.

If you want to ride the monorail, when you come down the elevator to the "entrance/parking garage", turn left & go to the end of the block. Look up--you'll see the train & steps to the elevated train--it's a driver-less car which stops every few minutes, so you won't have to wait long. You can ride all around downtown Miami & see the sights. One of the stops is near Bayside (within about 3-4 blocks). I'm sure about riding it at night unless you have a big group, but we were fine during the daylight hours. You can find a link to it (I think) it's called the people-mover. funcorn Posted January 19, 2006 #13 Share Posted January 19, 2006 This is the link to the Metromover Map: http://www.co.miami-dade.fl.us/transit/moverstations.asp The Radisson is near the Omni Station and Bayside Market is near the College/Bayside Station (There's also a McDonald's there). BobBeaSea Posted January 19, 2006 #14 Share Posted January 19, 2006 We stayed at the Radisson last year...it's fine. Great views of the dock in the morning with floor to ceiling glass on two walls. Funcorn is right, there was a lot of construction going on last year but it didn't get in our way. The lobby is on the second floor (1st floor is Bellmen, Cocierge station, luggage and transportation etc. The Monorail is great for getting to Bayside etc. in the daytime but we used a cab at night..we just weren't sure so didn't chance it (kinda sad to even think that way). You will be fine at the Radisson.
TrentS Posted January 19, 2006 #15 Share Posted January 19, 2006 There is STILL a lot of construction in the area, downtown Miami is one massive construction site! ;) Use caution on Metromover during the day, but at night, for your own safety TAKE CABS.
