Oprah today and cruise ship mishaps!

I watched Oprah today about the husband who went missing on their honeymoon. Not saying I believe her but it really sounds like she might have been drugged! I think I will be very cautious even more so with my children.

Anyone had any weird incidents???

I was told that they were drinking a very powerful alcoholic drink that sometimes makes you feel like you have been druged. I'm not a bit afraid, but I plan on being aware and careful. Just like any women traveling now a days.

Had she been drugged, I would imagine she would have had a tough time waking up a few hours later, refreshed and ready for the spa... There have been rumors that they were drinking absinthe... that would have gotten her pretty drunk.

I don't think RCL could have done anything to make her feel like they did enough... she was in another world, of course... but I think she was asking for a bit much... to act like it would "have been easy to just cancel the rest of the cruise and fly everyone home from Turkey and just give them a cruise or two for free", because "they have insurance"... I understand her loss, but that was a bit much... they had clearance to resume the cruise. I don't mean to sound heartless, but I don't think that was a feasible option.

Things don't add up... And there is just something that doesn't add up with the wife... not saying she was involved, but something just doesn't sit right to me.

I also watched the show today & it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I think really I don't know what I think the more I hear. Don't think she killed him but do think she knows more that she is willing to tell. Gayle shore fell for it hook line & sinker. But Opera gave my the feeling she wasn't so sure.

I don't have an opinion on what happened except to say that it is sad.

As for being drugged, it's possible. Date rape drugs don't leave the person out for a long time, and they are "ok" the next day.

"Shortly after the drug-spiked beverage is ingested, the person passes out. Victims usually wake up with no ill effects beyond amnesia covering the period of time they were out."

I agree. I think that she is holding back information. I found the Oprah show today to be one sided in the brides favor. They introduced the couple that witnessed the Smith's and stated that they were not drunk but there have been passengers that saw things totally different. Jennifer flirting with a casino host, kicking her husband square in the groin causing him to double over and drinking heavy along with fighting prior to her leaving the casino.

Also, how can someone be so out of it that they have to be escorted back to their cabin and then 3 1/2 hours later wake up and remember her spa appointment but nothing else? If she thought that George was with friends then why didn't she go to that cabin to see if he was there? Sorry I don't buy the "I can't remember" story. She clearly remembers everything before and after the disappearance. There must be a reason that the Smith family has distanced themselves from this young lady. I'm not saying that she was involved but I do feel that she knows more than she is letting out.

Something just doesn't seem right about her story. Just married, waking up no husband all night then going to the spa? I went on a cruise for my honey moon to. Let me tell you my wife diden't let me out of her sight all week. I told her I was going to the room she was up on deck I went to the casino for 25cent roulette, I turned around and she was standing there. She said this looks like a nice room . Im sorry I don;t buy any of this. I know the ship is big but come on. Have any of you lost you wife or husband all night and than went to the spa???????

Oprah is being sensationalist. Hers is an entertainment show, not a serious show.

I'll bet the same people who think there was a plot on the ship also believe in a JFK conspiracy.

We may never know what really happened, but it is pretty clear to me that the "bride" was not someone I would want to be married to or even to meet on a cruise! And I sure hope she does not get any more compensation from the tragedy beyond what Oprah has paid her.

Everyone, I'm didn't ask the question to revisit the show. We are going on a family cruise in a couple of months. I think after watching the show I will not let the leash for my children as long as I might have. My husband and I like to have fun and yes we drink but I will watch it.

Just want to know of any incidents.

I was over on the Oprah boards lurking. The consensus there is what I expected. The majority of the posters didn't believe the widow. She came off totally self absorbed and didn't show nearly enough of the grief that people would expect a freshly married freshly widowed woman to express. Her story about not remembering anything is way too convenient..a few posters brought up the possibility of her being drugged and said that there are a few date rape drugs that will leave you with no hang-over type side effects except memory loss. My feelings on that are that if I were honeymooning, and I had to be wheelchaired back to my cabin because I had passed out in the hallway alone, and I awoke 3 and a half hours later with no recollection and no husband beside me, I'd be a little too freaked out to go to the dang spa for a freaking massage.

The story has way too many holes in it. I don't believe a word that girl said and I was never so disappointed in Oprah...it was a lousy interview.

I just tuned in to a rebroadcast of the show this evening right at the time they introduced the gentleman from RCCL. I also turned it off soon afterward. It looked too one-sided to me.

I'm really surprised both parties appeared together since there's obviously some impending litigation to be taken care of.

Halos I agree oprah did a bad interview

Oprah was bad. Gayle was...there are no words for how awful she was. Oprah needs to keep her as best friend and forget about her as a show employee.

I think we'd all have done a much better interview ;) .

I don't think RC has anything to be worried about. Washing the blood was not too smart, but the cruise line did everything it could.

I would be upset if I was the wife and was told to pay my own way home only to find a letter soon after with a bill for my on board purchases. But that is not grounds for legal action and the CEO apologized.

3 sides to every story...I smell a fibber !!

How many people report their husband, on their honeymoon, not returning to the cabin at night, before an incident like this? Not many! No wonder the family is distancing themselves from Jennifer. Her story has too many holes and makes her husband look like less than the perfect honeymooner. She isn't even emotional except where what she can get is concerned.

To the OP - I know what you are saying, but I think that it is true of anyone and their drinks in any public place. Don't leave them unattended. I don't think that there is any more to worry about on cruise ships than there was prior to this story breaking. We all just need to use sense and be safe in travels.

Now, as far as the Oprah show goes - the interview stunk. Oprah, I don't think bought much of it. Gayle was terrible. The Widow - Puuhleeeze. WAY too composed. The tears...which one would expect a newlywed widow to cry...were less than Oscar performance. I've seen better tears shed in community theatre. I don't believe her. I hope to heaven that I am wrong as the day is long. I don't think that maybe he died at her hands, but I think, as many of you have said, she knows more than she is letting on. Accidents happen, people panic...quick fixes...hmm...

I think that even with what information is out there in the public, there is plenty more that hasn't been released....it will be very interesting to see how this plays out. I agree with all of you that don't think that the story quite adds up....

(According to the interview today too - the cruise line apparently didn't wash off the blood - apparently stain is still even there  )

As far as her statement that she recieved a bill from RCCL shortly after returning home goes...... She may have received the statement of her sea-pass card, but she didn't recieve a bill! RCCL, like all cruise lines, has their pax. set up either a cash account or a credit card account prior to the start of the cruise. When you leave the ship your bill has already been paid by one of those two accounts. I didn't like the fact that she led people to believe that she was being billed at that time!
