Lookin' For Dive Buddies...

W&K --

The Adventurer of the Seas departs from San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 2nd and stops at Aruba, Curacao, San Marteen, and St. Thomas.

I'm the only diver in my family -- 16 of us on this cruise! -- and I'm hoping to find someone to buddy-up with. I don't know yet if I'll dive at each stop, or who I'll dive with (ship's excursion or outside arrangments). I'm flexible.

I'm also spending a few days post-crusie on Vieques and Culebra and hope to dive there as well.

We are on the Empress March 27, and it looks like we're going to be swap islands on the 4th and 5th for Aruba and Curacao (you get Aruba first).

Bummer - it was really close.

I have booked independent dives for both islands if you would like the info.

Have a great time!

Gone down - Have you tried the roll call for your cruise. I found a dive buddy that way on our cruise last May. The wife generally logged on the roll call so he never chatted much but when I logged on and was searching for a dive buddy, she put him in touch with me thru emails so we got to know quite a bit about each other before we met aboard ship. Turned out that his brother in law also booked the cruise and dove with us too.

I didn't find anyone on the scuba board tho.

Gonedownlately-

We dove in St. Thomas Thanksgiving Day 2004 with Blue Island Divers, and they are located just around the corner from the Crown Bay pier. Here is a link to the review. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=121707 Also, just got a newsletter from them that had a link to a 10% off coupon. http://www.blueislanddivers.com/news.htm

We will be diving in Aruba with Clive at Dive Aruba. http://www.divearuba.com/ 2-tank am $60, 1-tank pm $35, and Clive picks up at the pier. Clive has a schedule of dives that he does on particular days, so you can see what the dive is for your day.

We will be diving in Curacao with Suzy at The Dive Bus. http://www.the-dive-bus.com/ The website is under revision for prices, but Suzy quoted me $78.75 for a reef dive and animal feed at the Seaquarium, which I think includes the dive, Seaquarium admission and taxes. Unfortunately, they can't get to the cruise pier any more, so will have to either cab it over to their beach hut or meet them somewhere - the plan is still underway. We may change over and do their beach reef at the Hut (Pierbaai).

If you decide to contact them, please tell them that Wendy sent you.

Most of the St. Maarten diving reports I have seen rate the diving mediocre, but most agree that the water is usually rough, and I'm too old, fat and lazy for that.

We talked to a guy from Puerto Rico on a dive boat this past July, and he said that the diving near Ponce is good, but he never E-mailed me the shop and location.

Hope this info helps and have a great trip!

Wendy
