pklopp Posted January 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2006 Hello - sad news out of the Cincinnati area today - comedian, headliner Blair Shannon, was murdered in St. Thomas on Thursday nite. He was a regular on RCCL and had gotten off a ship that day. The Cincinnati Enquirer did a feature story on him on December 27 - very sad. I am not good at links, etc., so if you want to read the story about his death, it can be found at http://www.enquirer.com. Prayers go out to his family. Cincy-David Posted January 21, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2006 Blair Shannon Can't beleive what I just heard... As I was sitting here typing, they just had a story on the news that Blair Shannon was killed by gunshot in the Virgin islands. Blair is an old acquaintence of mine who is a professional comic that has primarily worked the cruise ship circuit for the past years, including many RCCL cruises. He is from Cincinnati and still resides here with his only daughter. Apparently, he was on a beach somewhere in the Virgin Islands and was shot. Not a lot of details. He and I became acquainted years ago when he was first starting in the comedy business. He would rotinely work a lot of the charity projects that I was working on to raise funds for the Summer Camps that I used to work at. His wife was diagnosed with Lukemia (a foundation I worked with) many years ago and passed away almost 8 years ago. For those of you who are frequent cruisers, you have probably seen him. He has done lots of work for RCCL. If I hear any more details, I'll let you know. How shocking is this? Here is a link to a story about Blair that was recently in our major daily newspaper. http://search.cincinnati.com/sp?sId=6149910&cId=3052530&wId=6859&rNum=1&url=htt p%3A%2F%2Fnews.enquirer.com%2Fapps%2Fpbcs.dll%2Far ticle%3FAID%3D%2F20051227%2FENT%2F512270310%2F-1%2Fall&aff=5 Here is a link from a VI news source: http://www.virginislandsdailynews.co...me?id=12368355
hobo1937 Posted January 21, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2006 We were so sorry to read about this tragedy. We had the opportunity to see him on the Vision Alaska/Coastal cruise last Sept and really enjoyed his performance. He seemed like a genuinely nice person in addition to being a great entertainer. Our prayers go out to his family especially his daughter.
enyaw Posted January 21, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2006 What a talented man! I remember him from my Radiance Alaska Cruise 2 years ago. He was cruising with his daughter---and he was so excited to show her Alaska. I remember bumping into him at the various ports of call. Prayers go out to his family. Travelgrrl Posted January 22, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2006 I saw him and he was great. One joke I remember was when he said he wasn't all that jazzed about fishing (because after all that work, all you ended up with was a doggone fish), and he might be interested if there was a whole cow swimming around in the water. Also makes me a little scared of St. Thomas - though I know rationally that violence can happen anywhere...:(

negc Posted January 22, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2006 What a terrible tragedy and a great loss. We saw Blair when he was a featured comedian on Sovereign in 2000. At the time we commented that he was far better and funnier than many so-called "name" comics that have entertained us on land or at sea.:(
