Need help making a decision!

Hi all,

I've got a tiny dilemma in Fort Lauderdale for our 1 night pre-cruise stay coming up in March. The basic gist is that we ended up with two pre-paid hotel rooms for the same night (long story...), and now I need some help deciding which to use. Keep in mind that price is no longer an issue since the rooms are pre-paid (one will go to waste no matter what)...

Option 1:

Hotel is LaQuinta Inn & Suites in Hollywood

Rent a car for $60 total/taxes included so that we can run around and go wherever we'd like (mall, movies, whatever)

Don't have to pay for any shuttles to/from airport or port

I can pick my friend up at the airport when her flight arrives at 12:30 a.m.

No beach :-( (we could drive to Hollywood Beach if we wanted, though...)

Option 2:

Hotel is Sheraton Bal Harbour

Either rent a car for $60 and pay for their valet parking ($10/night plus tips, I think)...or pay $16/pp each way to/from airport (which would be $64 total for 2 of us roundtrip)

Won't be able to go anywhere except on foot or pay for taxis

Friend will also have to take a shuttle from the airport to hotel late at night

Beach and nice shopping nearby! :-)

Which would you pick? Do you see any clear advantage over the other? Also, something to note is that we'd be renting the car from FLL airport, which means we'd be able to easily meet my mother the day of the cruise when her flight arrives, rather than having her meet us at the port. Hmmm....can't decide!

Thanks, Bequia. The LaQuinta was kind of what I am leaning to, especially since the parking is free and it's closer to everywhere we need/want to go. It's too bad the Sheraton with it's humongous pool and pretty beach can't be in Hollywood with free parking! :)
