drobinson502 Posted January 22, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2006 How's the gaming at sea? We cruised Costa last year and you couldn't get enough people on a craps table to make it exciting.
Rachelle Posted January 22, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2006 I thought it was strange how slow the casinos were on the Grand. Other lines I've been on always had a full house every night. It seemed things didnt pick up in the casino until around 10 and usually later on formal nights. Even still... one half of the casino was never opened but maybe once. They had one craps table going every night... and it was usually fairly full. As always the blackjack tables were busy... Caribbean Stud was dead... Roulette and Let Em Ride had a few people but werent usually full. I played Texas Hold Em almost every night and we had 10-20 people who were there every night. It was a blast. I would have been disappointed in the casino if it hadnt been for the poker room. I will say that it was a Dec. 17th-24th sailing so alot of people may have been conserving money before the holidays. Who knows.
RodneyG Posted January 22, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2006 The casinos on the Diamond 20/12-8/1 06 Singapore to Sydney were never full or buzzing , blackjack and the 3 card poker games were popular as was roulette to a lesser extent. Before 10 pm they were pretty dead. I often went thru the casino to get to the atrium and saw the same ppl there all the time , one guy seemed to spend the cruise there and when I spoke to him towards the end , he said he had almost paid his cruise price in his winings , which I thought somewhat ironic as being in the casino full time is hardly a "cruise" - but whatever. What was real fun and what I really enjoyed was the $3/6 limit Texas holdem games , mostly played from 10pm to 2-3 am. there was at least a pool of 20-30 players and we were all friendly with each other as due to the small stakes etc , it was a social game rather than a money making thing . To lose $100 in an evening , one had to have been VERY unlucky. A stake of $50-60 would allow one to play a long time. Their was a craps table , but mostly no one played and the one night they did , a huge argument between punters and casino managment over a cocked dice took place. There didnt seem to be high rollers at the casinos and the slots were fairly sparsely played too. The odds on some of the games werent great , which I suppose contributed to the low no's of participants and perhaps the fact that there were 1000 brits , 1000 aussies and about 1000 americans (+ about 500 others) as the cruise make up also did so. In my country , SA , we can go gamble where and when we like , so a casino is no novelty. But as I say , the texas holdem was great fun and good way to pass the time if you didnt want to dance or sleep. The competitons were also great with $500 pots and a good chance of winning. The oddest sight - a lady in a bridal gown playing in the Roulette competition , she was renewing vows and she and a few of her guests got to the finals and thus they delayed the ceremony to play it thru. pcluva Posted January 22, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2006 The casino on the CB last Aug.13-20 was busy all week. The craps table was hopping every evening. The casino in the Sun Princess last Feb.17-27, was not nearly as active, but it could have been due to several factors; 10 day vs. 7 day cruise, older crowd, fewer passengers, etc. You'll get a busy table in a hurry by making a few points no matter where you are! Cookiesbykk Posted January 22, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2006 Just off the Grand yesterday - spent plenty of time in the casino. Here's what I observed: hubby played Texas Hold 'Em almost every night. As soon as they'd get at least 5 players together, they'd get a game going. He enjoyed himself. Craps table was dead some nights and packed others. I played a fair bit of blackjack and the $5 tables always were somewhat busy but they'd always open a new one when another one would fill up. Slots were always available. Someone won $19,200 on a $1 slot machine 2 nights ago. That was pretty exciting! Nice dealers, good sized casino and not too smokey. luvs2beachit Posted January 22, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2006 Off the CB this past week. The casino was always moderate to busy. If you are considering booking a cruise based on the casino book the CB because they have lots of money hanging around in their bank............I should know..........I just left it there!!!!! mmsoko Posted January 22, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2006 Is there a separate poker room or is it played in the casino? Any responses will be appreciated.
