Made up our mind yesterday to go on a last min cruise this weekend. Our son is having trouble finding a decent hotel on priceline (he does priceline all the time) Can stay at Embassy in MIA but heard it wasn't very nice.

What's your opinion? We're flying into FLL 1/28 and cruise leaves from MIA 1/29 Hmmmmm, got any room at your house? ha ha Thanks, Mimi

IMO the Embassy Suites MIAMI is not one of their better properties, and it's not in the best neighborhood. If you want something in the MIA airport area, these in the "Blue Lagoon" area on the south side of the airport are much nicer. These are about 20 minutes from the Port of Miami...

The more popular area to stay in however would be downtown Miami, closest to the Port of Miami and Bayside Marketplace... http://www.baysidemarketplace.com/

Has anyone stayed at the Lago Mar Resort and Club when in Ft Lauderdale. Saw it on yahoo travel and it looks like a nice hotel.

I was at the Lago Mar in early October, before Wilma. The property on balance was in very good shape. However, our room was in the wing on the North side of the property (if looking out to the beach from the tennis courts, it is on your immediate left). We had a 2 bedroom suite. While the room was large and well laid out, it was a little dated. We had to have it re-cleaned several times because the family who stayed in it before us left raisins all over the place and they were not cleaned up. AS you can imagine there were ants everywhere.

This wing is slated to be demolished and rebuilt, or so we were told by someone who worked there. There were renovations going on in the main building and everything there looked new and in good shape. The bottom line is that I would request the main building if staying there. The rest of the property is terrific.
