New Zealand Shore Excursions

I need advise on what shore excursions are the best for New Zealand--we convinced our close friends to give Seabourn a try--they picked "The Yachting New Zealand & Fiji II" cruise. They have asked advise on what adventures ashore for New Zealand they should pick. I know nothing about the area, but understand is beautiful.

New Zealand is a beautiful place to visit. If it were me going on that cruise, I would do the Waitangi and Kauri Forest from Russell in the Bay of Islands. All that area is beautiful, Russell is just a very small village on the water, good fish 'n chips!

The other one I wouldnt miss would be Rotorua Thermal Wonderlands....all the thermal areas are rearly fascinating....boiling mud pools , geysers etc....the smell isnt too great though......maybe a drop of perfume under the nose...or a mask!!
