Lady and the Tramp Posted April 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2004 I know people say there are not stupid questions so I'm going to ask one .... When did they announce that paradise was going to be a smoking ship and that they were moving her west? Because I totally missed it and I'm looking to do her Eastern trip June 2006. If they are moving her, what ship are they putting in her place? tef43 Posted April 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2004 It was a few months ago that the announcement was made. It appears that the Valor will be assuming her Sunday-Sunday routes, with a small change to the eastern itinerary, replacing DR with Nassau. dan40 Posted April 14, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2004 On Sept. 20th, 04, Paradise arrives in LA. At that time Carnival will no longer have a non-smoking ship [including Paradises' replacement]. Sometime in the future Carnival may or may not have another non-smoking ship. tef43 Posted April 14, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 14, 2004 Thanks Dan. Let me clarify, the Valor is taking over the routes only, she will not be smoke-free. jennifervail Posted April 14, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 14, 2004 Tom, you said "with a small change to the eastern itinerary, replacing DR with Nassau." However, her Eastern itinerary already includes Nassau. So what will be replacing DR? (current Eastern itinerary: Nassau-DR-USVI) Thanks! tef43 Posted April 14, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 14, 2004 The new eastern itinerary will be Nassau-St Thomas-St Maarten. For some reason I thought that Paradise already made a port call at SXM. The western itinerary remains the same as Paradise's current Belize-Roatan-Grand Cayman-Cozumel. K.C Posted April 14, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 14, 2004 Yes they are moving her to Long Beach and turning the ship into a smoking one. We have booked the 1st cruise which leaves on Sept. 17th. I wish they would keep it non-smoking though!! dan40 Posted April 15, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 15, 2004 K.C, If you will check your dates, I'll check mine. We will be on the last non-smoking cruise of the Paradise. The sailing leaves Miami on Sep. 5 and arrives in LA 15 days later on Sep 20. It will sail out of LA on the 20th for 3 or 4 days. That will be its first smoking cruise. dien2cruize Posted April 15, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 15, 2004 I have been wondering about the crew....Were they not hand picked to work this ship because they are specifically non-smokers? I wonder how they will handle now being forced to work on a smoking ship? dan40 Posted April 15, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 15, 2004 Linda, Since there will be NO non-smoking ships in the world then, where else would they go? Leave the industry? A tough call. dien2cruize Posted April 16, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Dan, Agreed that they would not want to give up their jobs but, wondering if they will be upset or "grouchy." Does that sound stupid? Just don't want anything to spoil my inlaws 50th wedding anniversary surprise especially since this will be their first cruise. Like I said, just thinking out loud. Thanks.
