Rome excursion / transfer

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am going on a mediterean cruise and was wondering if any of you have already done excursions in Rome. I am trying to see whether taking my own transfer to rome is better than just going with tui excursions at sky high prices which I pretty much always do on other occasions. But for rome, I am just a bit concerned by the transfer distance and the massive size of the city so if any of you have experience to share please welcome

Hi

I'd been to Rome several times so wasn't too concerned about a guided tour. The happy medium was the insurance policy of "Rome on your own" where you get a coach transfer from the port to a spot you return to. In my experience it was Castel Sant Angelo which is well placed for walking to most tourist attractions. You also get handed a map and the guide typically provides a commentary en route for the most part.

That said, if I'd never been before I'd probably be keen to a get a more inclusive guided tour to make the most of it/get into attractions.
