Sprink Posted January 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2006 Hi, We will be off our ship on Friday Feb 3rd at around 9am our flight does not leave until 8:30pm so we have an entire day to spend. We are renting a car and driving to South Beach. What is the best place to park our car? We want to go to the beach.. so are the beaches free and what is the best way to get there? We want to be close to the restaurants and shopping and everything else so what would be the best place to go and park that we could have the beach close? PLeaseeee help
TrentS Posted January 26, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2006 Of course the beaches are free. To get to South Beach from Miami take I-395 (MacArthur Causeway) east to the end. The "heart" of South Beach is between 5th & 15th Street along Ocean Drive, and 5th & Lincoln Road along Collins & Washington Avenues. There are a number of parking garages in the area, just follow the signs to parking off of either Collins or Washington.
Sprink Posted January 26, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted January 26, 2006 what is the weather like in nassau this time of year? Too cold for swimming? How about south beach? Thanks.
TrentS Posted January 26, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2006 The ocean water temp is in the mid 70's. The air temps in both Miami and Nassau vary, the highs are normally in the 70's to low 80's. If a cold front comes down it can get down into the 50s & 60's, but those normally don't last long. It's generally a very nice time of year now, the humidity is low, the temps are pleasant, and there is very little chance of rain.

Trents....I had to laugh....Here in Rhode Island they make us pay to park then pay to walk on the beach! Can you imagine! We have to bring our own plastic bags for garbage also as they removed all of the trash cans! Such a shame because we have very nice beaches. Years ago we never had to pay! TrentS Posted January 29, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2006 Yikes... Well you DO have to pay to park here, but the beaches are still free... Don't give them any ideas though! ;)
signman Posted January 29, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 29, 2006 There is a public lot on Collins around 7th or 8th. That is pretty much in the center of the action.
funinthesun86 Posted February 1, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2006 We just did the same thing. We were off the ship by 8 a.m., took a rental car shuttle to pick up our car and drove to South Beach for the day. We parked at a public parking garage on 13th Street, just off Ocean Drive. It was $1/hour, max $8/day. We had a wonderful day, walking around in the area. The beach is beautiful, free (we have to pay to get on the beach in NJ, too!), and lots of fun people-watching to do. We enjoyed the food at one of the many places along Ocean Drive between 5th and 15th. We drove back to the rental car return and took the shuttle to the airport. Great day!
