BillB48 Posted June 30, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2019 Once your ship passes through Gatun Locks and reaches the Lake, normally you can selelct one of the ship's tours and tender ashore to join the tour. While you are on your tour the ship will lock back through Gatun Locks and proceed to Cristobal/Colon. To clarify, there is no full transit tour at this juncture. What happens if you select the shore excursion that takes you to the Pacific side of the Canal, you will be bused to the Pacific side where you will lock through the Pacific Locks and transit Gaillard Cut. By combining your passage through Gatun Locks that morning and the shore excursion I just referenced you will have transited a large portion of the Canal, but it won't quite be a full transit. After you have passed through the Pacific Locks and Gaillard Cut you will be bused back to Colon to rejoin the ship.
