greatam Posted January 26, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2006 My dry cleaner has recently changed management and will no longer clean beaded gowns. I called 5 different places in Phoenix and they all told me I either had to have care tags attached (only two out of 7 of mine do-I cut them out if they scratch), had to sign a release of liability, or wouldn't touch them at all. I fly all over the US on business and am in NYC and LA at least once a month, so taking them outside my immediate area is NOT a problem. Any suggestions? One cleaner told me he could "hand wash". Is this a viable option? If so, could I do it at home? Just curious???
Jane110 Posted January 26, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2006 In NYC, Jeeves on 65th St between Madison and 5th Ave does a good job. Jane
txjoy Posted January 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2006 I have actually hand washed my beaded gowns. I had an outdoor formal and my dress was very dirty afterwards! The owner of the cleaners said to put my dress in the bath tub with cold water and add a teaspoon of Tide. I left the dress in for about 10 minutes and pulled it out to dry flat. My dress came out absolutely beautiful! It saved me a ton of money also!
greatam Posted January 28, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted January 28, 2006 Thanks for the answers. Jane, I will take some of them to the cleaner you recommended next month when I am in NYC. Thanks txjoy, I think I will wash the two least expensive. If it works, then I guess I solved my cleaning problem. What do you think about using Woolite? Thanks for posting your experience.
