ckrobyn Posted January 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Hi everyone! We made it to San Juan after they cancelled our flight yesterday and re-booked us on a later one :( We arrived in San Juan at 12:30am and went straight to our hotel - guess what? They were over sold - even though we had confirmed reservations there wasn't a room for us! So there we were, at 1:00am with nowhere to sleep  The Manager of the Courtyard Marriott Isle Verde made arrangements for us to stay at the Intercontinental for the night ( he paid!) and today we arrived back at the Marriott and because of the aggravation we went through, they upgraded us to a suite ;) Hopefully the next part of our vacation/cruise goes smoothly! We leave on the AOS this Sunday :D I'll post again from the ship.... Those of you that know me, know that the fact there was no hotel room for me totally freaked me out  Now I have 3 days to recover until the cruise....LOL
wrp96 Posted January 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Oh my God! I would've had a heart attack. This is exactly why we are going to San Juan a day early. Hope this is the only hiccup of your cruise.
KKeeganS Posted January 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2006 I love the Intercontinental and hope you do, too. Sounds like you're off to an adventurous start to your trip. Hopefully, things calm down and you have a relaxing time!

Hope this is the only hiccup of your cruise. wrp - believe me, I was freaking out like a lunatic at the front desk! Not to mention the fact I was travelling with 2 senior parents and a 9 year old and they were a tad cranky at 1:00am! We are in San Juan for 3 more nights until the cruise - hopefully all goes smoothly You're right.....always travel to the port city EARLY! The Intercontinental is a LOVELY hotel :) They were very gracious to us.... The Marriott Isle Verde is also very nice - beach is gorgeous and the rooms are large, well decorated and very clean. I would still recommend it even though they bumped us out last night - they ARE doing their best to make it up to us ;) They must know I'm a regular on Trip Advisor...LOL! snowmouse Posted January 27, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Wow, robyn what an adventure (no pun intended)! I have crossed paths with your posts many times in the last couple of weeks as we are on AOS the week after you. We are also at the Courtyard next Thurs-Sun before we sail. How do you like it now that you're settled? It sounds like they really handled a bad situation pretty well. It can only get better from here, after all you are in paradise and have that great suite to look forward to on Sunday!!! Have a great time. ps. your screen name sounds so familiar. Have I 'talked' to you on the disboards before?

Unfortunately can't travel early to my cruise two weeks before the Serenade - I sortof have a prior commitment that day. Enjoy San Juan! Come back and give me good suggestions on where to eat and what to see.

Have I 'talked' to you on the disboards before? Hey snowmouse! You will really like the Courtyard, it's a very nice hotel right on the beach. The rooms are great, as I said they upgraded us to an oceanfront suite - so I don't know what the other rooms are like. There are plenty of places to eat here, lots of choices. Had the dinner buffet here in the hotel tonight, it was very good :) Prices are not all that bad either.... San Juan is paradise compared to the snowy streets of Toronto! It's HOT here....was mid 80's today and more sun in the forecast for tomorrow. I can't wait 'til Sunday when I finally see the AOS for the first time!!! BobBeaSea Posted January 27, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Hi Robyn! Well, sh*t happens now and again, I can just picture you standing at the check-in desk absolutely out of your mind :D. Glad everything worked out for you and your family. Have a great time :). P.S. No snow here yet and it doesn't look like we are going to get any in the next few days...it's been a weird January. divaofdisney Posted January 27, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Robyn- Wow what a start to your vacation, but it sounds like all has turned out ok. I hope you have a fantastic time and I can't wait to hear about your cruise when you post "live". It was fun for me when I did that from my cruise. Again, relax and enjoy your cruise. Nliedel Posted January 27, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 27, 2006 It sounds like it was fixed beautifully! Things happen when you travel. In some ways you just gotta hang on for the ride and make lemoncello out of lemons.
nrdsb4 Posted January 27, 2006 #13 Share Posted January 27, 2006 At 1:00 a.m. after a long day of traveling, I bet 99.9999% of the population would have a meltdown if their "confirmed" reservation turned out to be fiction. I always expect snafus when traveling, but I would have reacted the same. I hope the rest of your cruise proceeds smoothly. Have one of those drinks with the umbrella in it...oh heck, have a couple! critterchick Posted January 27, 2006 #14 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Robyn, I'm glad the manager did what he had to do! Sorry your trip got off to a rocky start, but I'm sure it'll be smooth sailing (pun intended) from now on!
golfer1966 Posted January 27, 2006 #15 Share Posted January 27, 2006 I ve stayed there on a weekend getaway with my wife. We liked the place very much. The pool is very nice and the beach is clean. The food was a little pricey, but was good. Casino was ok. Anyway, I am glad it worked out for you and have fun on the cruise !
lauren0309 Posted January 27, 2006 #16 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Well at least you made it to Puerto Rico. It could have been worse! In two days you will be on the ship. Lucky You!!! Looking forward to reading your review as I will be on the same ship next January.
curlyd Posted January 27, 2006 #17 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Robyn, I have followed your postings for a while because we too are staying at the Marriott in Ilsa Verde - 2 nights pre and 1 night post. It's nice to hear the hotel is a good choice. There will be some international baseball tournament there when we are there in March so I was a little worried about them overbooking. But we will arrive early on Sat. 11th so hopefully all will be ok. Enjoy your cruise.

Curly - you will really like the Marriott - it's a lovely property that is really clean, has great food ( make sure you eat at the lobby cafe called Bannana - the pizza is awesome!) Hopefully you do not have the check in issues we had - but as some other posters said sh** happens......and you move on...... If there is anything specific you want to know about the hotel - ask and I will try and reply tonight!
