Fort Lauderdale Hotels

Okay... we have reservations since Dec. 2005 at Extended Stay.

We are suppose to check in this Saturday the 25th. Our cruise

is the 26th. I got a call at WORK today that the hotel was

over-booked by 21 rooms!!!! Seems there's some medical

convention in town and Dr. Phil is there. Any how, they said

they'd try to find us another room and would call back. I was

just sick! We have 8 people in 2 rooms. No one called me

back and I sat at work trying to concentrate on my work...

3 hours later when I got home, I checked my voice mail and

there was a message. They found another room at one of

their other facilities about 2 miles away. I'm just happy they

found something, but upset that even with my reservation, they

were so overbooked! I had never heard of that before! I guess

what I'm getting at is... be warned to check your reservation with

a phone call before. I had emailed them a couple times earlier

in the week and never got a response. Now I know why!

Oh well... it all worked out.

We'll have to pay more in taxi fees, but that's how it goes.

I got lucky and was able to get this hotel for night of March 3rd. This was cheaper than the Marriott's price and same price as I had booked for Hilton Garden Inn. Going to cancel the Hilton. From everybody's postings hear this is a nice place to stay.

We need a room for two nights for our pre cruise on 12-1 and 12-2. our cruise leaves on 12-3. I can get this hotel for $140 a night. I know it is a ways from the port. it looks like it has lots of restaurants and bars in area I am wondering about the noise. I have heard that they stay open till 4am. Anybody been to this hotel and have any ideas. I would love the embassy suites but it is $249 a night I want something on 17th street any ideas or is this a good bet?

I booked this hotel soon after booking my July 1 cruise, my first. I have since discovered cruise critic and have read "stay away from all Best Westerns," "terrible neighborhood," "unsafe," etc. Is it really all that bad? Is it worth canceling and rebooking a different hotel (it seems there are a lot of BAD hotels in FLL). Can anyone give me specific examples. My buddy and I are in our 30's if that makes a difference. I honestly booked this hotel because it was one of the few on Travelocity in our price range that didnt have bad reviews. Plus, its close to a German restaurant and maybe the hotel won't seem so bad after a few biers.

We stayed at Holiday Inn express on 17th and had a great time. It was clean and the bed was HUGE. They also had continental breakfast which was good and they took us to the airport for a small fee. We were surrounded by resturants and shopping. We went to Durty Harry's for wings and beer the night before and burgers also.

We just stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on State Road 84, both pre and post cruise. It is not close to anything such as Las Olas or the canal.:( However it was one of the cleanest places I have ever stayed. The staff was also very helpful. Definitely one of the better hotel stays I have had over the years.

These are all within walking distance of the Comfort Suites on Federal Highway:

17th Street

Tara Steak & Lobster is right next door to Extended Stay America (which is next door to Holiday Inn Express)... http://www.tarasteakandlobsterhouse.com/

Carlos and Pepe's (Mexican) & Durty Harry's (bar with food) are in the same shopping center as Tara. There's also a small diner in that strip mall.

Einstein Bros. Bagels is across the street from Holiday Inn Express.

Bimini Boatyard and Bravo (great Italian restaurant) are both across the street from Holiday Inn Express, and about a block east, opposite the Renaissance Hotel... http://www.bravoitaliano.com/

Jack Jackson's new restaurant FISH is across the street from the Renaissance hotel, attached to the Convention Center complex at the entrance to Port Everglades... http://www.fish-fl.com/

Chuck's Steakhouse... http://www.chucksflorida.com/

And Waxy O'Connors are both across the street from Embassy Suites, a long block west of Holiday Inn Express... http://www.waxys.com/

Outback Steakhouse and Del Rio Tex Mex are just west of Embassy Suites, and Quarterdeck is across the street and a block north of Embassy Suites on Cordova Road, just beyond Winn-Dixie... http://www.quarterdeckrestaurant.com/

Kelly's Landing is a great New England style seafood place in a strip mall on Cordova Road, across the street from Winn-Dixie.

If you want some excellent ice cream, Aspen Ice Cream is in the large yellow strip mall across the street from Tara and Carlos and Pepe's... http://www.aspenicecream.com/

There are 3 large strip malls around Holiday Inn Express - More or less across the street, next door, and behind, as well as several smaller ones. There are at least a dozen other small restaurants scattered throughout those strip malls, plus a number of fast food and carry-out places in the area as well... You'll never go hungry along that section of SE 17th Street, there's something for every taste and budget.

Those are just the ones that you can easily walk to. ;)
