dennycat Posted October 26, 2006 #27 Share Posted October 26, 2006 Has anyone been to Playa Mia lately? I was there a few years ago, and thought of going back. We're on the Rhapsody of the Seas next week and are looking for a nice beach to spend the day in Cozumel.
bug18 Posted October 27, 2006 #28 Share Posted October 27, 2006 I was there in July and thought it was great. I was actually on a cooking excursion which took place at Playa Mia. The rest of my group spent the day on the beach and loved it. While they were there they kayaked and went on the banana boat.
ilovecruisin' Posted October 27, 2006 #29 Share Posted October 27, 2006 hi i just returned from cozumel and spent the better part of my day at playa mia. had awesome weather. docked at punta lagosta pier (first carnival 4 day cruise to dock since WILMA) i had a great time, they are still doing construction work to make things better at the entrance but the beach area and facilities are in great shape. i got the all inclusive, $42 for buffet, all you can drink and snorkel/towel, non-powered beach toys. it was a great deal. they even have an open bar right at the buffet. everyone was very nice, i got massage on beach from nice woman, rode the jet ski's (very fun) and parasailed. i also snorkeled around the underwater mayan city, saw a lot of cool fish. it was my first visit there but i could have spent several days at playa mia. oh yeah, and it WAS NOT crowded like alot of paradise beach goers claim. i would estimate 75% of the beach chairs were not used and their were 3 other ships in port that day. needless to say everyone was happy to see us and treated us great. hope you enjoy your trip as much as i did. elvisrocks Posted October 28, 2006 #31 Share Posted October 28, 2006 We have seen pictures of the beach chairs at Playa Mia. How comfortable are they ? They look like they are hard to get in and out of. If you get the deluxe package, do you get a umbrella with your beach chair ? Also, do they have small tables with chairs available on the beach ? Thank you for any information.
Cozumel-Ian Posted October 28, 2006 #32 Share Posted October 28, 2006 You can find a new guide to beaches, including Playa Mia on this Cozumel vacation site which may be helpful (see "Life's A Beach"). Playa Mia's website is here too: http://www.playamia.com/ although I'm not sure if it is up-to-date on everything. Ian

emdia43 Posted November 14, 2006 #42 Share Posted November 14, 2006 If you go to Playa Mia only get the basic entrance. I wouldn't want to eat the food there, although they have signs on everything that says 'prepared hygenically'. The pool was NASTY. The beach was ok,crowded of course, but it was fine for a day. I'm still looking for something a bit more upmarket. On the plus side, the staff there all helpful and seemed nice.
ipick2 Posted November 14, 2006 #43 Share Posted November 14, 2006 We were at Playa Mia on November 10. An elderly gentleman suffered what appeared to be a cardiac arrest while we were there. Unsure of what ship he was from, but his wife said they were celebrating their 50th anniversary that day. Does anyone know anything about it? I am an EMT and went over to try to help, as well as several other Americans, one of whom was a Paramedic. Really want to know the outcome if anyone knows??? ipick2 Posted November 14, 2006 #45 Share Posted November 14, 2006 Sorry to hear that he passed away. I was pretty sure that he was deceased when they left the beach with him. Too bad that they did not have an AED (Automatic Electronic Defib.) on the beach or in the ambulance that was on standby in the parking lot. We asked several times for one, but the Mexican employees of the beach either did not know what it was or they didn't have one. They delayed starting CPR too. We tried several times to start CPR, but the Mexican employees in charge refused to let us stating "NO CPR". Please give my sympathy to your co-worker. Vellamint Posted November 14, 2006 #46 Share Posted November 14, 2006 Went back to work after lunch to find out that the mans daughter came in to work today as he is not back from Mexico yet. I do not personally know her but if the opportunity arises to let her know that you send condolenses I will but I wont bring it up myself. I do not want to intrude into a very sad and private time and I think it would upset her more to read your last post. From what I have gathered he was jet skiing and told his wife he was not feeling well right before the arrest. Very, very sad...even though I do not know her personally she has always been smiling and friendly.
Vellamint Posted November 14, 2006 #47 Share Posted November 14, 2006 Okay..I have been thinking about this all afternoon. I dont know if I am reacting appropriately given the circumstances. At the risk of sounding like an idiot on a public message board that I have only just starting utilizing...... Would you want me to give her this website in case she would want to "talk" to you? If it was MY father or husband I think I might want that information (not right now but eventually).
GottaLuvCruising Posted November 14, 2006 #48 Share Posted November 14, 2006 It really is a sad situation and such a painful loss for the family. But I'm sure he was smiling and enjoying his time on the cruise celebrating. This is yet one more situation that unfortunately requires reminding people to get travel insurance. If without coverage, his wife probably flew home from Mexico at her own expense and had the cost to bring her husband home after his untimely death as another challenge. You just never know. ipick2 Posted November 15, 2006 #49 Share Posted November 15, 2006 Vellamint, Absolutely give her this website if you feel that it is appropriate. I was there and saw the whole thing. In fact, I spoke to the wife and tried to console her as best I could. What a nightmare to have to go through that in a foreign country. i just feel so bad for her and the rest of the family and wish that there was more that I could have done.
