Ariel35 Posted August 28, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2019 Has anyone booked the excursion? If so, what were your thoughts on it? Also, does the price include the fee to mendenhall glacier?
kangforpres Posted August 28, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2019 It should include the park fee, if you are just going to the Glacier and nothing else you will have enough time to go on one of the hiking trails.
kwb101 Posted August 28, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2019 We took an excursion to Mendenhall in May that included the Alaska State Museum, which I thought was a gem, beautifully done and very interesting. It's only a few years old, and is in excellent condition. I think we were allowed an hour to see it. We also went to a rainforest garden that we enjoyed. Best of all, our excursion only had eight folks on it, so there was plenty of room on the bus.
Seavoyage Posted August 28, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2019 You can take a bus to Mendenhall on your own - will have much more time to explore. Walk to Nugget Falls is beautiful. We were there last September - it was amazing! Have fun.
epanchenko Posted August 28, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2019 I was there last week. Which excursion are you looking at? I am younger, my brother and I hiked to Nugget Falls and back in 40 minutes, but we were walking very quickly.

You don't really get close enough to have "the glacier experience" but as mentioned if you walk out to the falls you get a nice view. I suppose it depends on the weather on the day you're there. The little museum there is somewhat interesting. It's a low-risk/low-cost way to spend some time in Juneau. We also took a helicopter up to the top where we were able to wander around for a while - that was cool (literally and figuratively). This last time we took the kids on a "gold panning" excursion followed by a salmon bake.
