Nanner Posted September 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2019 (edited) We will be in Port Chalmers on the Maasdam in February, and I am planning on taking the Taieri Gorge train independently. Does HAL offer a shuttle into Dunedin, or are there taxis at the port? If HAL does a shuttle, does anyone recall if there was a charge, and perhaps the cost? Jolokia Posted September 16, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2019 We were on the Maasdam January 2018 and took the Taieri Gorge Railway Tour by an independent vendor that provided bus transportation to and from the train station, with a trip through Dunedin on the way back. The supplier was Canterbury Leisure Tours through Viator. A very nice excursion.
I_r_a Posted September 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2019 Hi N, You can walk up a hill from the port to the public bus. We opted for a cab to pick us up at the port and return us. dnbookings@corporatecabs.co.nz Enjoy your visit. Ira
Sir PMP Posted September 16, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2019 We had a free shuttle, 15 minutes, on the Volendam, to downtown, from there it's a 15 minute walk to the beautiful train station, worthwhile to walk around.

Hi, We just did this in April, when you are booking the train, look down a couple of rows, there is an option for pick up and drop off at cruise port, quite a good deal, with the train company itself. There were about 30 of us that did this. You do not have to book with a third party, the train website has the option. We actually did the option with the city after the train ride, but wasn't much time left, I would not suggest that option, I would just choose the option with the shuttle pick up at the port and drop back off. You will have time after the train ride to walk around Dundedin before your ride back to the cruise port. If I can find the link I will post it later for you. Lido deck main Posted September 16, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2019 Actually on second thought, look at Noordam, April 7th, 2019 roll call Sydney to Vancouver, there is a link in that roll call on booking with the train and a cruise port pick up and drop off. Have a read.
