Gallivanting Souls Posted September 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2019 Our group of 4 will be in St Thomas January 21. Our port times are approx. 11-7pm. I am leaning towards Godfrey's tours, but not yet set on which one. Definite must do city tour and beach time. Not sure about the shopping part? If we do the tour and beach should be about 4 hours ($32). Is there shopping near the port that we could do on our own? We have no need for jewelry. I mainly like magnets and t shirts or things I can make into magnets. What do you think? The price is not much more ($35) to add the shopping, but do we need to be sent to a certain area to shop? I would really have another hour or so at the beach and try snorkeling on our own. Does he let you choose a pick up time? I'm leaning towards Sapphire Beach. Let me know. Have you toured with Godfrey? Is there a better alternative? TIA
Ms411 Posted September 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2019 There is shopping at the dock so until the construction in town is finished no need to go there.

We were in St Thomas in September 2018 and the downtown area was a mess. So are you saying, it still isn't worth a stop down there? Going in November. Ms411 Posted September 25, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2019 Still a mess but may be better by November when season starts.

Stinger-pr Posted September 26, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2019 Well, it's not really a mess. I was there on a weekend land vacation this past April and while yes, there is construction around town (mainly on the waterfront area between Fort Christian and Yacht Heaven Grande) it wasn't really cumbersome. We rented a car and had no problem driving around town or the rest of the island. That being said, most of the shops downtown have satellite locations at Heavensight where the ships dock (or at Crown Bay if you're coming in on a Royal Caribbean ship) so if you're not really looking for a specific store, you might find everything else on Heavensight. Sapphire is a great choice for beach time as you will have facilities and food conveniently right at the beach and not as crowded as Megan's bay gets.
