Hi everyone, this is my first time cruising for my husband and I and I just love this board. My husband is coming home in 10 days from afghanistan and I booked a cruise on the fantasy for a nice R&R. I believe he needs it after being there serving our country for almost a year. I was thinking about some ideas on how to make this cruise romantic and relaxing for my husband and you all have some great ideas Thanks Im so excited that he is coming home and going on this cruise in July. I know he deserves it. Thanks everyone for all the info on these boards they helped out alot

Lastras30,

Welcome aboard! Great news about your husband coming home - wrap your loving arms around him & give him a big hug from all of us.

You might want to mention to the cruise director on the Fantasy the reason for your celebration. Usually he/she will publicly acknowledge your hubby during one of the ship-board events and thank him for his service to our country.

Our military personnel deserve all the respect & credit they can get.

May you have smooth sailing...

Thank you salty dawg. Sounds like a great idea. I think he deserves the acknowledgements. He didnt get to go on any R&R while he was there because he took care of his soldiers first and made sure they got to go on R&R. Not all soldiers over there were lucky enough to enjoy the 4 days they did get. He even worked their shifts for them on holidays when possible. So now its his time for his R&R thats why i want to make this really special for him.

First, let me thank your husband for his service to our country (and you too!). My nephew served in Afghanistan and his unit was one of the first to go in (15th Marine Expeditionary Unit off the USS Peleliu). When he and his buddy got their first leave and were able to come home, we planned a huge welcome home party. My sister-law's company donated a chartered bus so we could all go to the Cleveland airport to greet them and bring them home. During the party (where about 150 showed up - including one of the Cleveland TV stations), my nephew and his buddy stood up and wanted to a small speech. They thanked everyone for making their homecoming so special and, with a tear in their eyes, said that it was an honor to serve their country and they would die to protect each and every one of us.

They both went back to Afghanistan and, with the grace of God, finished their tour and returned to Camp Pendelton in San Diego. I happened to be in San Diego on business shortly after their return and we met for dinner. During dinner the main topic of conversation was how much they wanted to be with their brothers in arms and help with the impending (at that time) war in Iraq.

So the next time some special-interest group tries to spin this war for their own devices, think about these two brave boys and their selfless dedication to this country. It's them and the thousands before them that have made it possible for all of us to enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Great, now I'm hooked!

For those who fight on distant shore,
Who give without a word;
Defending us with honor,
So gallantly they serve.

For every boy who leaves his home,
Returning here a man;
And every woman who made a choice,
To make serving a part of her plan.

For every fallen soldier,
Who gave all they could give;
To guarantee our liberty,
And the freedom that we live.

Each one who served with honor,
The brave, the tried, the true;
America gives it thanks today,
For we truly see a hero in you.

Please help get this passed along!
Let's make sure it lands in the email
box of every man/woman out there
who is serving our country!

What a wonderful thread this is. Our favorite ritual is just before bed: mix some gourmet hot chocolate (we bring) with some Bailey's, sit out on the balcony with all of our lights out, and just gaze at the ocean below and stars above, while listening to the sounds of the sea. Absolutley soothes the soul and brings us such a feeling of contentment and gratitude. Very good for putting life in perspective. I am grateful for every wonderful cruise I've been on.
