looking4sunshine Posted October 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2019 Thinking of going on a Bahamas cruise and wondering if the islands are a wreck or not?
Rare Tapi Posted October 23, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2019 (edited) If you’re going to Freeport or Abaco, yes. The rest of the country and all other ports of call in the Bahamas received zero to minimal damage. And even though Freeport was the hardest hit, it’s already receiving passengers from Carnival and Bahamas Paradise. Take a look at the map attached. The red box is The Bahamas. The purple box is the portion of the Bahamas affected by hurricane Dorian. Edited October 23, 2019 by Tapi
Sooner-Cruisers Posted October 24, 2019 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2019 We just got back from our Bahamas cruise, definitely proceed with your plans. The water and beaches are gorgeous. We stopped at Freeport, you could see storm damage, but (at least on our route to the Grand Lucayan) you would have no idea of the severity. I was shocked how good it looked. Half Moon Cay was absolutely stunning, prettiest water I’ve ever seen. Nassau looked as good as always, lots of construction, but the beach was nice & the water was pretty. here’s what we did in Freeport: We took a taxi ($5 pp) to the Grand Lucayan resort. Day passes are $20 pp, $10 for kids. The taxi was $6 pp back to the ship. The resort was in good shape, some shingles were missing from some of the roofs. There wasn’t very many people, but it was a beautiful day. We enjoyed the beach and pool.
