bappo Posted February 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2006 We are wondering if any of our fellow cruisers has taken the ships transport to Florence, and if they could guess as to what time the bus might leave the port. Realizing the ride is over 1 and 20 minutes, we are trying to plan our museum ticket purchase times as soon as we arrive in FLorence. Poconolady Posted February 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2006 You did not mention what cruise line that you are going on-but RCCL tours and on-your-own transporation left the port between 8 & 9/ It depends which group you are going with, full tours seemed to leave earlier that the transportation only groups. vjblk Posted February 6, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2006 We did the Florence on your own with Celebrity a couple of years ago and we arrived in Florence around 10 am.
leighuf Posted February 6, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2006 1. Open https://shorex.rccl.com/. 2. Select "PURCHASE" at the top right of the screen. 3. Type in your reservation number and sail details. You then can select the exact tour you're interested in and it'll show you the approximate time the tour must meet (& if it's available for purchase). As you may already know, the tours meet in the Theater in the morning. Once your tour is called, you all follow the leader downstairs to the waiting buses. You'll be ushered in a bus, your tickets will be collected, and there will be several head counts. There will be a waiting period, on the bus, before your tour will depart Livorno. If your tour goes straight to Florence, there will be a stop at a rest stop so passengers can use the facilities. Since the buses cannot drive INTO Florence, you'll be dropped off a little ways away from the museums. I believe you'll be escorted to Santa Croce but factor in walking times and other possible delays. I agree, don't make a reservation before 10am. Also, double check that the tour won't swap the order of cities based on traffic conditions or other conditions. It would be horrible if they decide to go to Pisa first after you made reservations at the Accademia for 11am.
bappo Posted February 6, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Thanks to everyone who responded. I went and checked out the time on the RCCL web site, and it meets at 8:15, so I'm guessing we'll leave at 9 get to Florence around 11, so I will make my reservations at 11:30. Thanks again for all your help. Barb
