Bimmer babe Posted February 14, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2020 Going on MSC Lirica leaving Dubai Feb 29. Rupees apparently are regulated--can't buy them anywhere except in India and can't take any out. Will be on 2-day excursion and wish to buy souvenirs, tip bus drivers and guides. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Chairsin Posted February 14, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2020 On our recent trip to India we just used ATMs to get rupees.
Bimmer babe Posted February 14, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted February 14, 2020 Thank you--I just hope we have a chance to do it as we are herded through the port.🤞
Chairsin Posted February 15, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2020 Just ask you driver to take you to an ATM that is within your network on your way to start your excursion. Just be warned there is a limit to how much you can withdraw at a time and some of the machines can be subject to malfunctioning or run out of money. In Delhi we actually had to ha e our driver go to three different ones to find one that worked and had money. I would be skeptical of using an ATM in a cruise terminal. I will only change money at an actual bank.
Bimmer babe Posted February 15, 2020 Author #5 Share Posted February 15, 2020 Thank you--not having a personal driver--going on a group excursion and don't know how many other passengers will be in our group. Maybe we can "gang" up on the tour guide who escorts us and make him stop at an ATM for all of us to get rupees. It would be in his interest so that he can get a tip. 😉
