Sheraton Old San Juan

Hi:

Anyone stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan? We are booked for a pre-night stay next month before our Adventure of the Seas cruise; but from the reviews I've been reading about that hotel, it isn't a great place to stay. It will only be for one night but I was just wondering what experiences or comments anyone else might have about this hotel.

Thanks in advance.

Happy Cruising.....Sparkle 10

If you want to be in Old San Juan, this is the place. Even though your ship most likely docks across the bay, you'll be in the middle of all You can see all the ships from the roof- where the pool is, your just a couple of blocks from alot of restaurants, you could even walk to the fort.

On the other hand, if it's a resort your looking for, then you'll have to go outside the old town to one of the big hotels like the Intercontinental. I've stayed in both, and enjoyed both, if that helps.

You have to remember that reveiws are opinions and everyone has one. If someone saw something they didn't like as soon as they walked in the door, everything was no good.

I have been there before and will be staying there in April as well. It is in a great location at the bottom of Old San Juan right across from the Carnival docks. If it is just two of you and you want something a little more romantic, try the Hotel El Convento on Christo Street.

My husband and I stayed there last April and will be staying there again in a few weeks. We sailed on Serenade of the Seas in April 05 and we loved the Sheraton. Right in the middle of Old San Juan and within walking distance of everything. Get up early in the morning and watch your ship sail into the harbor!! Our rooms were nice, the rooftop pool was enjoyable and the casino on the ground floor was fun. We arrived the evening before the cruise and had time for a dinner across the street (Mafungo?) lost a little money in the casino and enjoyed the evening on the rooftop by the pool. After room service the next morning, we had several hours to walk around the city. Leave the hotel and turn right toward the gardens. Lots of street vendors etc. We took a horse and buggy ride that took us all around the city and out to the Fort El Moro. If you're sailing RCI, you'll need to take a cab to the opposite side of the bay (I think it was called the Pan American Pier) but it only takes around 10 minutes. We arrived early (by 11 am) and we were one of the first on board. This year we're sailing Carnival and they dock at the piers directly in front of the hotel. Since the ships don't sail until 10pm, our plans are to get on the ship early and then take a tour of the San Juan Rain Forest. The only way I can think that you'd be disappointed with your choice would be if you were expecting to lay on a beach. If so, this isn't the hotel for you. If you want to explore the city....you made the right choice. Hope you have a great time!
