I think I blew it!

I called Carnival about their One Day sale after my TA couldn't get them to budge. The Carnival rep told me that she could upgrade me from the Upper Deck to the Empress Deck because I am not in the penalty period. Then she went on to tell me that right above those cabins on the Empress was the kitchen galley, 2 diningrooms, the atrium and a lounge and that I might be happier staying where I am due to the noise above. I called my TA and she said the same thing and she also said that since we booked two cabins right across from each other they may not be across from each other on the Empress at this late date. So, we opted not to take the upgrade. I asked if there would be a ship credit, but they said no. Did we make a mistake by not taking the upgrade. We have already been upgraded from the Riviera Deck to the Upper Deck on their last sale, so I feel like we've already taken advantage of their sales. I'll keep checking for our cruise prices to go down, but right now they are higher than when we originally booked. What do you think...should we have taken the upgrade??

Katie,
We took our first cruise last year on Celebrity Zenith. It wasn't until several months into our booking that we realized we were RIGHT UNDER the kitchen. My advice would be this--how well you sleep depends on whether it bothers you or not to be under the kitchen. I am a light sleeper and yes, I did hear people pulling out shelves, I could hear chopping on a board and pots and pans being brought out- at 5 AM!! My hubby heard nothing, he slept through it. But this is the worst we experienced. It wasn't so bad, but you wonder if you were to get romantic in your cabin, would THEY hear you???? LOL.

If you enjoy being awakened at 5:30 AM then you made a mistake. It's very easy to see what areas are above, below and around your cabin. Just look in your brochure. I think your TA and Carnival gave you good advice. Whether you're comfortable with their reasoned advice is up to you. A good TA is valuable in such things as avoiding less than desireable cabins.

I think I understand how you feel...it's that word 'upgrade'. You don't want to feel like you missed out on getting something just a bit better.
If I were you I would have stayed exactly where I was as well. The upper deck will be awesome and you really don't want to be under the kitchen.
Yesterday I was thinking about upgrading to the deck on the Miracle right below the Lido (pools, bar). I asked on this board and people responded that, YES. You can definitely hear the chairs being taken down and slid around every morning. So I decided it was best to stay where I was...which happens to be the upper deck as well.
Sometimes upgrades aren't better. There have been folks on this board who were offered them and refused them because they were happier with what they had.
You're going to be happy where you are. You didn't blow it by any means!!
have a great time!!

You could just as easily wind up with a noisy next door neighbor who talks loud, plays the tv loud and slams the door at all hours of the night. It truly is a crapshoot!

You guys are GREAT! You've made me feel sooo much better about our decision, especially since I wake up with the slightest sound. My hubby can not believe how easily I hear things!
I'm happy with our cabins on the Upper deck and with my kids directly accross from me. I think you're right about feeling like we are missing out on this just because of the word "upgrade". Thanks again!

We were in outside Empress,E46, on the Celebration a few years ago. I think it was just forward of midship. We never heard any kind of noise from above. I'm not actually sure what wasabove us. It was noisy enough with the idiots next door and the Griswolds across the hall with their screaming kids and slamming doors.

Katie--In the big picture you would be in the same size cabin just about 15-20 feet higher up...I don't think it would have made your cruise all that better anyhow. Stay where you are.

If you think you may have a problem sleeping, try using earplugs. My husband is a very light sleeper and uses them every night so he won't be disturbed. I might even take a pair for me as sometimes being in a different place may make you more aware of your enviroment he also uses a eye mask to keep the light of the TV from being a distraction

We booked yesterday not even knowing about the sale day. We were upgraded from Riviera deck to Empress. I just looked though and our rooms are ok. Shouldn't be any noise problem.

You'll be fine right where you are and are probably better off since you have more cabins above you.

Even if you took the upgrade you'd be in the same exact size cabin, decorated the same exact way as the one in the cabin below. You would be only 1 deck higher. In my opinion it's no big deal.

I guess I was lucky. We are definitely in the penalty stage(have already paid completely for the cruise) and leave in 49 days, but I called and got a $300 shipboard credit!! I was elated!!
