simkoreb Posted May 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2004 I was reading a post about someone getting a great deal on airfare and I was wondering, who have you gotten great deals from? The only place I have booked through is cheaptickets and their prices aren't that great, yet. (I'm checking all the time.) Who else should I try? kristy Posted May 1, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2004 I check Orbitz, Travelocity(sign up for fare watcher)Expedia and all the major airlines websites. My best air deals are usually found on Orbitz though! Guest Posted May 1, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2004 My best advise is to check weekly. I always find the best air deals on Monday morning - I don't know why. 2 weeks ago I was able to purchase r/t from Hartford to Ft. Lauderdale for $128 pp - of course, I jumped on it. I check side step first, orbitz, and sometimes qixo, but I always go to the individual air web sites for purchase - sometimes the price is even cheaper there. Keep checking - air prices are like the stock market, you never know when the deal will appear. pgmrdev Posted May 1, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Check out the coupon Northwest has been mass mailing. For travel within most of the eastern half of the US it is $198 roundtrip ($178 for tuesday/wednesday travel). Tickets must be issued by May 30, travel must be completed by June 30. It requires a saturday night stay and no sunday travel permitted. The coupons can be had on eBay pretty cheaply. Search on "Northwest coupon". Each coupon is good for 2 people.

Grand Princess 2-2001 Grand Princess 12-2001 Carnival Paradise 3-2002 Carnival Destiny 10-2002 Golden Princess 10-2003 Carnival Legend 6-8-2004

SUSANITA Posted May 1, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Go to the airlines directly, usairways.com, southwest.com, airtran.com, delta.com, etc... The best rates I've found have been at usairways.com and airtran.com. Be certain to search by PRICE, not by schedule, if you have some flexibility around your travel time. Travel Angel Posted May 1, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 1, 2004 I suggest trying orbitz, expedia, travelocity etc.... when you see a reasonable fare, then go to that airlines direct website and see if it can be done for less ! Also try southwest, airtran, or spiritair as they often run promotions that you can obtain by getting on their email list. And remember that MANY TIMES, if you book your air and a lower rate is found afterwards thru the airline, you can get future travel vouchers good for 1 year for the fare difference. Finally, check other gateways close to your home or try checking flights arriving to airports close to the port you are sailing from i.e. Lauderdale vs. Miami, and you may see some savings there too ! Brneyznfl Posted May 1, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 1, 2004 I've always found the best fares at directly at the airlines websites with one exception. When I went to Vegas I found it cheaper at Orbitz. ralmyers Posted May 2, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 2, 2004 I see that you live in MI. I am pretty sure that Northwest's hub is at DTW. We just booked directly with Northwest for our upcoming cruise. 2 people out of Dayton to Miami for 411.00 including all fees and taxes, only one connection in Detroit. On vacation last year the flight times were not really an issue, so we used priceline to Norfolk (going to OBX), and it was 300 for both of us. Air Tran has brand new planes, which is nice. I would just check every day if you can. Salty Dawg Posted May 2, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Detroit Metro is a hub for Northwest. Traveling in October r/t air from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale on Spirit (non-stop) was $244 complete for 2 passengers. Northwest couldn't match the fare! ralmyers Posted May 2, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Salty -- Hey thanks on the offer :-) We most definitely will be up in August for the Woodward cruise. Like a lot of people in the Motor City my father-in law retired from Chevrolet/ Ren Cen -- so they are big into cars. They actually live in a subdivision across from a golf course? Am I thinking right? When we lived up there we lived at M-59 and Romeo Plank. Talk at ya! tatania_starstrider Posted May 2, 2004 #21 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Ususally the airlines own website has the best deals but sometimes Pricleline beats even that. I don't mean bidding on a flight - I mean the prices they list. Try Sidestep as well as it comapares ALL published prices.
celbercrz333 Posted May 2, 2004 #22 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Sim, Travelocity, Cheap Tickets, Orbitz, etc. are all good, I'm sure. But we found that going directly to the source: Carnival.com, AA.com (American Airlines), etc. were cheapest. We booked our flight directly online from Baltimore to Miami for our fall cruise. Carnival not only gave us better rates than an e-mail special we found from another source, but Carnival upgraded us 2 categories! They were glad we went with them. We've never sailed with Carnival, but my mom has. Our first and only cruise was with Celebrity and we told Carnival that. Joanne
ebedore Posted May 2, 2004 #23 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Travel Agent has posted it like it is. I always look for the bets deal and use those options. Being from Michigan we have some really great fares to Florida and alternative airlines too. DTW-MIA can be sold at decent fares but the real bargains can be found using the alternative airports and airlines. DTW-FLL is usually cheaper and you can get there with Spirit. Don't forget that Flint is also an option (AirTran) and Toledo (depending on whre in Michigan you are). We are flying TOL-MIA on American Airlines in August. Don't forget some of the big online agencies do not list the lower priced airlines so you'll have to go to other websites for those. Good luck. irishgirl Posted May 2, 2004 #24 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Unfortunately, for those of us in the central or west part of Michigan, don't have many carriers to choose from. I always check Orbitz then go to the carrier to see if it's cheaper. I only have 2 airports to choose from, Grand Rapids and Lansing. But usually Lansing is $100 cheaper to fly out of.
