Weekend Mariner of the Seas AMA

My husband and I are thinking about booking this fall on this ship. We are both fully vaccinated and are looking forward to returning to normal life.  We are interested in what the experience will be like regarding the new protocols put in place.

Where exactly are we expected to wear a mask? Do we have to sign up in order to attend shows or activities? Are we expected to stay away from the other cruisers, or can we meet new people and chat or sit with them? Do we have to wear masks in the pool area? In the casino?

I am allergic to hand sanitizers and have a very strong asthmatic response if I breathe the vapors of it. Being on a cruise ship was always a bit of a challenge but we learned how to stay aware and avoid being downwind or trapped in an elevator when people have used it.  Did you see a lot more usage of hand sanitizers and do you think it would be especially difficult for me to avoid it? I'm very good at holding my breath and running through it as long as it isn't too much.

I appreciate any insight you can give us.

We won't have any kids with us.

You're supposed to wear a mask everywhere indoors unless it's a vaccinated only location or you're drinking/eating. I very rarely saw someone not doing that so not sure whether it was good enforcement or most people weren't being jerks and following the rules.

You can reserve the shows. We did. But never showed up early enough to have to show we reserved it but still got in every show. The marriage show was the only one that was standing room only.

They do make announcements about distancing, but no one was particularly following that.

Pool is outdoors so no mask. Casino is a vaccinated only location so no masks once inside.

I didn't find the mask wearing that onerous. Though even though I have asthma I was never one really bitching about it. Really only when I went to Disney early on and had to wear it outside all the time in 90 degree heat.

I have no idea on hand sanitizers. There was definitely an exponential amount more of them throughout the ship. But in the windjammer they were directing you to sinks to wash your hands. I don't think people were using it in abundance even though it was kinda everywhere. They're the electric ones so keep an ear out for the noise and then run? There was a dispenser in each elevator lobby though.
