Tinkerbell Posted February 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2006 It left today an hour and a half late. What are the chances it will make it to Cozumel on Monday on time?
electricron Posted February 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2006 Pretty good. Usually the Dream leaves Houston on Saturday around 5:00 pm. It's not scheduled to be in Cosumel until 1:00 pm Monday. That's 44 hours. The distance between Cosumel and Houston is approximately 830 miles, therefore the Dream normal speed to make it to Cozumel on time is 830/44 = 18.7 knots. If the Dream leaves Houston two hours late, she'll have two less hours to make it to Cosumel on time, and must travel at 830/42 = 19.8 knots. The Dream can easily make up the late departure of two hours. It only has to travel slightly more than 1 knot faster to reach Cosumel on time over that much distance. The Dream's cruising speed is listed at 21 knots. At 21 knots, the Dream can travel 830 miles in 39.5 hours.
