BamaBelle Posted May 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2004 I understand for example...a 1A GUAR (1 lower and upper birth) or a 4A GUAR (inside stateroom for up to 4 persons) guarantees you the GUAR room Cat you choose or better. But both are inside stateroom Cats. So what is the difference with these inside stateroom Cat GUAR I mentioned and the Cat that is called "IS GUAR?" There must be some difference I am unaware of since it is one of the optional Cats alongside all the other GUAR Cats. TIA. BamaBelle
nancy M. Posted May 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2004 This is just a guess since I am new here and to cruising but maybe it is the the inside stateroom with the "bunk beds" opposed to twin beds. Like I said just a guess but who knows... Nancy sailing Conquest 6/27/
BamaBelle Posted May 10, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Nancy, thanks for the response. Your theory is a possibility. I was just curious about it so maybe we will get some more input that will clarify it for certain. BamaBelle
dan40 Posted May 11, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2004 1A is a 1A cabin [u/L] or better and the lowest upgrade priority. IS is a 4A cabin or better and the second lowest upgrade priority. 4A is a 4A cabin or better and the third lowest upgrade priority. Legend Posted May 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2004 The only difference is about $100 per person. You would probably get a better upgrade, if any, when you pay the $100 more per person
BamaBelle Posted May 11, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Legend, thanks for the response. It makes more sense to me now. Someone posted somewhere how they always booked just a 1A GUAR and had always gotten upgraded. But I guess the higher the Cat GUAR, the better the upgrade or chances at least of anyway, huh? BamaBelle Posted May 11, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted May 11, 2004 dan40, thanks for the response. Between all of you who posted, I think I have a clearer understanding of it now. BamaBelle
F5Loar Posted May 12, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 12, 2004 The problem I see with a 1A guar. is you could wind up with a 1A which only has the upper/lower bunks and the rooms are smaller. While with the 4A guar. you at least know you will have the 2 lower beds that can be pushed together for the king/queen look. To a married couple having the upper/lower might not work out too good. I've not figured out why Carnvial still has the upper/lower rooms unless it's for singles, college kids or parents who put their children in another room that is cheaper. budser Posted May 12, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 12, 2004 On the Sensation last week, we booked an OV guarantee ( which was about $70 pp cheaper than the 6A ). We ended up with a 6D room. Kathy
pgmrdev Posted May 12, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Since there are so many fewer 1A than 4A cabins, there is a better likelihood of being upgraded with a 1A GTY than a 4A GTY. The catch is, you may only wind up in a 4A while the 4A may do better. eerbeek Posted May 12, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 12, 2004 On Destiny, I was in a 1A ASSIGNED cabin. Cabin 2105. It was OUTSIDE with PORTHOLES and had 2 beds on the floor (NOT upper/lower). It was MUCH better than a Cat 4 inside due to the windows. I loved being able to see outside!!!! The bathroom was a little smaller, but the room itself was the same size as my previous 4A's on Victory (same layout) and Fantasy. Plenty of space as the beds were pushed together near the window. It had a full sized sofa and the usual cabinetry as well. I was VERY comfortable in the room and even with a companion, it would have been just fine.
