what would you do if your ship had an abundance of Covid ?

We were to sail on 8 Jan, Crystal Symphony.  The ship has many positive Covid cases and we think it is not safe to cruise, rather we would like to consider a cruise when Covid is under control  We are confident that cruising will return, and have cruised at the beginning of the return to cruising in 2021.

Crytal is telling us we can move our booking out until May 2022.  If the cruise we choose has a lesser cost than the one originally booked we forfit any $; no shipboard credit, no $ to another cruise

I am attaching the letter sent to the Crystal Symphony passenger regarding 5 Jan cruise:

For those scheduled to depart on Symphony 8 Jan, have you received any updates/information on cancellations? I was told we could cancel but had to book a cruise that departed Feb-April 2022 This leaves us little choice.  Also I was told that the cost of the new cruise had to be the same or greater than original cruise in order NOT TO LOOSE $.  Crystal would not allow for onboard credits if the cost of the 2nd cruise was lower than Jan cruise

We all realize that Crystal and every other line is in business to be profitable but at what expense?  All other lines such as SS, Seabourn and Regent  been reasonable during these difficult days.  We all want to cruise; no one wants to be shuttered in a room with no access to the outside for a week or be put off on a remote destination .

Appreciate input from the many seasoned cruisers.  I know RSSC has many seasoned cruisers with a variety of opinions

This is what those on Serenity received and it allows for FCC for a year.

Dear Valued Guest,
We look forward to welcoming you aboard Crystal Serenity tomorrow, but first we would like to share some important news.
As you are aware, the Omicron variant is affecting all aspects of our lives and this, of course, includes the cruise industry. As a result, we currently have an elevated count of crew members who have tested positive for COVID-19 on the previous cruise, with the majority asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic. These crew members, as with all crew members, are fully vaccinated, with most having had the booster vaccine, and all are isolating in solo staterooms and being well cared for by our medical staff.
The ship is currently operating with heightened operational Crystal Clean+ protocols, developed in response to COVID-19 that exceed Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendations in most cases, which may include the closure of some public areas or disruption of services during your cruise. We will work closely with local officials to maintain our published itinerary but there may be a deviation depending on the situation.
At this time, we are requiring that all guests wear masks in indoor public areas except when eating and drinking, and that they practice social distancing from those not in their traveling party.
Crystal Serenity is scheduled to sail with less than 50 percent capacity tomorrow to augment social distancing ever further, with all guests fully vaccinated and tested at embarkation, as per our standard procedures.
While we certainly hope you will choose to sail with us, we understand if you prefer not to do so, and we are offering a 100 percent Future Cruise Credit* (FCC) if you would like to postpone your vacation. The FCC would be equal to the amount of the cruise rate paid and will be good for the next 12 months. Your account will automatically be updated with the FCC if you choose not to sail.
We will continue to monitor the situation daily and to make decisions accordingly, always with the care of guests and crew, CDC guidelines and the policies of each country we visit as our guide.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
Sincerely,
Crystal
