catnipper Posted May 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2004 We will be cruising on the Sensation on May 29. The evening before we will be driving down and would like to eat in Tarpon Springs at one of the Greek Restaurants. Does anyone know of one that is exceptional? or perhaps there is a good one in Tampa that someone would like to recommend. We will be staying at the Hyatt Regency that evening and will be driving from South Georgia. How about breakfast in the morning prior to boarding the ship that is close to they Hyatt? Cruising89143 Posted May 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2004 I think that the most famous is Louis Pappas' in Tarpon Springs. They have been around for many many years. They have an awesome Greek salad. http://www.pappasriverside.com/ Gordon http://community.webshots.com/user/cruisingator NCL Starward-86, Starship Atlantic-91, Caribe-92, Seabreeze-93, Fantasy-93, Norway-94, Celebration-94, Sensation-95, Imagination-96, Destiny-97, Celebration-98, Triumph-99, Victory-00, Majesty of the Seas-01, Fascination-01, Carnival Pride-02, Majesty of the Seas-02, Carnival Legend-02, Fantasy 7-03, Glory 9-03, Fantasy 11-03, Triumph 3/04. 9/02/2004 Fantasy Navigator of the Seas 12/04/
bjkeen Posted May 15, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2004 I've ate at Pappas too. It was interesting, I'm not to well versed on Greek food. I liked the desserts better than the dinner. welovetocruise1234 Posted May 15, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 15, 2004 I live in Tampa and Pappas is very overated. It was just bought by new owners and is really a tourist trap. There are some wonderful restaurants up on the side streets of Tarpom, including Hellas (sp). You also may want to try the Columbia in Ybor city. They have fantastic Cuban food and a flamenco show. Try the 1905 salad and the seafood paella, yum! Carnival Legend Poker Cruise Let's get the cards in the air Cruises 1984 Boheme 1986 Rotterdam 1989 Costa Riveria 1990 Jubilee 1991 Ecstasy ??? katie286 Posted May 16, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 16, 2004 We always go to Tarpon Springs when we get to Florida. Being a Greek family, we know our foods! LOL! I have to agree, there are many restaurants in the Greek Village. We have gone to a few of them and they all were really good. After dinner you can go to one of the pastry shops and have a wonderful time eating the awesome desserts! Enjoy! SENSATION! welovetocruise1234 Posted May 16, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 16, 2004 OK, it's been bugging me all night. One of the really good ones on the side street is called Costas!!!! Try it. It's a family owned restarant and then after dinner go have dessert on the main drag. Try the Greek coffee too, its strong! tw1nk1es Posted May 16, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 16, 2004 I live in Illinois and find it necessary to go to Hellas in Tarpon Springs at least once a year. Also, bring a cooler to transport bakery items back to the condo. You sure won't be able to eat your dessert there if you finnish your dinner. pazooter Posted May 18, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Our favorite is Mykonos. Main street, small, has a parking lot out back and a back door entrance. We always see lots of Greek locals eating there. Favorite foods, spanokopita (this appetizer will fill you up like a main meal) and orzo soup. Not too expensive. We like to park there, eat inside and spend the day shopping, etc. No cost for parking. Enjoy your day in Tarpon Springs and your cruise.
