Embarkation in Venice/Ravenna

I recently booked a Venice-to-Rome cruise for next year, and this is my first cruise that starts with a day in the embarkation port.  Day 1 - Venice (Ravenna), Day 2 - departing at 2pm.  How does this work?  Is the embarkation process on Day 1, and then I can sightsee, etc. and the ship is my hotel that night, and Day 2 is sightseeing in the morning and ship leaves at 2?   Or is embarkation on Day 2 and I should just have a hotel in Venice the night of Day 1?  Is there a longer window for embarkation?

I do plan to arrive in Venice a couple days early, as I've never been there.  Just curious how others have managed that Day 1 that's technically part of the cruise.  Transportation between Venice and Ravenna, etc.

Thank you!

Andrea

It sounds like the ship is in Ravenna, if so this is really misleading.

I would clarify whether the cruise line (which one is it, by the way?) is providing transportation back and forth between Venice and Ravenna on that first day.  Or perhaps are they having you check in your luggage in Venice in the morning, then providing transport to Ravenna in the evening?  That I might understand.

In every other port, if you want to spend time in the port prior to the cruise you can but you don't pay for a day on the ship.

If this is a Celebrity cruise, I’ve been told you can arrive day 1 and use ship as a hotel or arrive day 2 prior to sailing.

We plan to stay day 1 in Venice and arrive at the ship on day 2.

It used to be nice having the “hotel” arrangement when the ship was docked in Venice. It’s a pain getting now from Venice to Ravenna.

Yes, it is Celebrity, I should have mentioned that.  I think, given the distance to Ravenna, I'd opt for spending that night in the city and boarding on "day 2".  Plenty of time to decide, I was just curious how others have done it.  Thanks for the replies!
