Hi-

We leave from Tampa on the Legend on MARCH 11 for a 7 Night cruise to the Western Carribbean. There is 6 of us going, ranging from 20-28 yrs in age. Since this is being my first cruise, I am just wondering what to expect. How strict are the dress codes?? On formal nights do u HAVE to wear a SUIT or TUX? or can u get away with wearing a shirt and TIE? What is the Typical age bracket for the cruise? or is there pretty much somthing for everyone? I am used to going to ALL inclusive resorts, so i am kind of leary on what to expect. So any Feedback would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

We were on the Legend this month. Most of the guys had on either a tux or a suit on formal nights. The only people I remember seeing with just a shirt and tie were some kids (9 or 10 years old). If you really don't want to wear a suit, there's always the option of going to the Windjammer for dinner.

The average age on our trip was probably 60s. There were some older and some younger, but on average somewhere in the 60s. But there is definitely something for everyone. We're in our 40s and have 9 year old boys. We had a great time on our cruise! Just relax and go with an open mind!:) :)

Hey there!

I am really glad to see a crowd of people around my age group goin on the same cruise as me! We are too booked on March 11th Legend. I am 28 and my husband is 32. Stroll over and sign up your group for the meet and mingle if you can.

For formal night, I really think you should wear a suit, BUT dont feel obligated to wear a tux. There are only a handful of people that do. But you may look in the minority with no jacket on and just a tie. Just judging by all my other cruises. Me and husband arent even eating in the dining room this cruise, because we want to try something less scheduled, and do the Windjammer buffet for dinner each night. Nice and casual, and I dont have to pack ANY formalwear. Ya know you all could do that on formal nights if you want to...just eat at your leisure in buffet...that way you dont have to pack formal wear either. This sounds like your first cruise, and if so, you may want to go ahead and do the dining room straight through the week to get the feel of what is like.

There are very mixed ages on all cruises. Since this week we are on Legned is a huge spring break week for Florida and some other states, MANY kids and college age will be on board. But, many older adults will be too. I usually cruise this week in March, so I can tell ya it has always been mixed ages when I have gone every single time. Mexico will be loaded with college kids, so make sure you all stop by Carlos N Charlies for a bunch of fun. We never miss it!

I am really happy to see you all are booked. If you have any other questions about Legend, please ask me in this thread... I am more than willing to help you cause I have been asking questions about the ship for a year, and I have gotten great information.

Oh, and the nightlife seems to be in the Viking Crowne for us under 40 crowd after 11pm. Someone said it was Top 100 type music and nightclub atmosphere. We shall see I guess :)

hey oliver the cat--

Im glad that you responded to me with such great information!! Bear with me, because me and my room mate have a ton of questions.

1.) Can you bring alcohol/gatorade/soda/water on board?? is gatorade available on board.

2.) What kind of activities can we expect on board?

3.) are there any great shore excursions that you can recommend? Ive been to cozumel before, and love the chankanab reef, but i hear that its closed to to Hurricane Wilma.

4.) How much money should we bring with us?? I hear that tipping can be expensive. How much money do you think we will need in the week just to cover tipping for ONE person? How much overall money do u think that one person should bring?

5.) We are still up in the air about bringing formal wear... It would just be another bag to have to worry about. So im sure we will decide last minute.

well i thought that i had more questions, and im sure i will find some more, but that should be it for now. THANKS!

Hi, I am 24 years old, and I was on the legend last year, so I can answer your questions.

Im glad that you responded to me with such great information!! Bear with me, because me and my room mate have a ton of questions.

1.) Can you bring alcohol/gatorade/soda/water on board?? is gatorade available on board.

Gatorade is not sold on board..You can bring Soda, water, and gatorade, but unless you hide your booze real well in a suitcase, you can't bring any on board.

2.) What kind of activities can we expect on board? Read the planner they give you each day.

On your sea days you can expect games around the pool, bingo, at night game shows, a love and marrage game show, commedians, and the "Quest". Do not, I repeat do not Miss the quest!

3.) are there any great shore excursions that you can recommend? Ive been to cozumel before, and love the chankanab reef, but i hear that its closed to to Hurricane Wilma.

Don't know, haven't really made it passed carlos n charlies bar.

4.) How much money should we bring with us?? I hear that tipping can be expensive. How much money do you think we will need in the week just to cover tipping for ONE person? How much overall money do u think that one person should bring?

Tipping is reccomended at 10 bucks a day per person, so 70 bucks a person for tips is fine.

BY THE WAY - WE WILL BE IN COZUMEL THE SAME DAY (WE ARE ON THE EXPLORER OF THE SEAS). WE WILL BE AT CARLOS N CHARLIES IN THE AFTERNOON - COME JOIN US.

Hello again :)

1) My husband is the gatorade drinker of the two of us, and he said when he asked the staff on Navigator if they had gatorade or powerade on board they told him no. Now, the Legend may be different, but I wouldnt count on it, so if you have to have it, bring it. I would honestly not advise bringing soda or water on board, soda because its readily available everywhere, and water from tap is JUST as tasty and safe as the bottled water. Its purified very very well. I really enjoy the taste of it. We bring 4 empty water bottles from home and refill them over and over in tap in bathroom. The only problem is if you have an interior or exterior room, you wont have a frig, so water will not be COLD. We have an inside room this trip, but luckily, we like room temp. water fine. Lugging bottles of water or cans of coke on board is sooooooooooo heavy. If you want to do it, or take alcohol on board, they advise to do it as a carry on. Especially like a bottle of wine. Make sure its wrapped securely in bubble wrap so no breakage will occur. I dunno though, I just wouldnt want to carry something so heavy!

2) Activities vary on each ship. User "erisajd" is going to be posting scans from the Cruise Compasses (activity sheets) from each day of his recent Legend cruise, and he said they will be posted on this board later in week. This will give you a complete rundown of what to expect. The compass we get on cruise will most likely be very very similar or exact. If there are any specific activities you are curious about, what are they? I can tell you if they are on board or not.

3) In Grand Cayman, Stingray City is what most people love. I havent done it yet, but its the top excursion booked on cruises. In your cruise docs or on RCI webpage, it details what you do in it. We always do our own thing in GC. We are going to Seagrape Beach this time for the day, and then going over to Senor Frogs for a few drinks after. I love the laid back atmosphere in GC, and its my favorite port so far in my travels.

In Belize or Costa Maya, I havent been, so I cant recommend anything unfortunately. We are doing Boat Blast in Costa Maya. Belize we are staying on ship to enjoy the quiet day. Not really into the whole jungle thing, but a lot of people talk highly of the cave tubing adventure. Cozumel since the hurricanes is devistating, and snorkeling isnt the same, so I am anticipating a big shock when I see it for first time since Wilma. I have done the Fury Catamaran Sail Snorkel and Beach Party 2 times and LOVED it. So much fun. Also, if you are big drinkers, the Fiesta Party Boat excursion is full of booze, booze games, and lots of music and fun. A lot of the young crowd books that. We are going off on our own this time in Cozumel to Paradise Beach. We are really on a budget this trip because we are going all out when cruising Mariner next year for my husband's law school graduation. So, we really cut back on excursion $$.

4) Go over to the RC site and look at the tipping policies. They are pretty lengthy, so its probably best you look there. How much spending money you bring depends on what you want to do. While $1,000 for a couple for one week may be enough for some, others need $3,000.. If you gamble in casino, the money slips away fast. The slots arent too loose there from what I saw last cruise. Big drinkers need more money, and if you want to do spa, that is very expensive. It totally depends. Our first cruise years ago we ran into this problem. Setting a personal budget is probably best, and stick to it. Spending can get really out of hand on cruises because you use the Sea Pass card for EVERYTHING ON BOARD, and can easily lose track of what you are doing. Parking is $84 for Tampa port, so have that available when you arrive.

5) There are perks to doing formal night, like the whole experience of looking elegant for a night and the formal photo ops, and the dining experience is usually the best on the 2 formal nights, there are drawbacks, such as having to pack all the crap in your suitcase :) Husband and I are perfectly fine in not having to. Women also have issues with dresses getting wrinkled, and everytime, I have to send my satin dresses to get steamed before formal night. Gets to be a hassle, so we are so happy we are doing buffet for dinner this cruise to try it out. Jeans and sundresses, flip flops and tennis shoes for dinner, and eating when WE want, and not having to worry about bad tablemates seems so appealing :) aaah... cant wait. You all will get your own table though, since its a table of 6, or you could get a table for 8 and get another couple at your table ...most of time around same age group.

Please dont hesitate to ask me anything else! Can you believe we sail in less than TWO weeks ! Whoo hoo!!!

Firefighterhoop -

Since they changed our itenerary, we are in Cozumel on Wednesday now, instead of Thursday, so I dont think we get the chance to be with Explorer this time round. I see we are with Enchantment and Splendor this time.

JonnyBravo - forgot to say that too.. DONT MISS Quest game. I dont want to tell you what is because the whole fun is NOT knowing till you get there. Just trust me when I say DONT MISS IT, best laughs on ship.

I just got off the Legend and there was definitely a wide range of ages. I chatted with a few 20 somethings and they couldn't believe the variety of things to do. The evening entertainment was excellent. Enjoy!

Thanks for all your info, its been awesome. Ive heard that The Stingray thing in GC was pretty fun from one of the guys with us that has been there before. Me and my roommate did finally get signed up for the meet and mingle, and noticed that there are only 20 ppl so far and it says that we need 25. So i hope that fills up a little more. Im sure ill ask you a few more questions as the cruise gets closer...and I really am thinking about not bringing formal clothes thanks to you.haha.A couple shirts and Ties for Semi formal night, but i dont want to have to lug a suit along with. THANKS AGAIN!!

When did you book cruise? It changed about a month ago. We are only in Cozumel til' 530 too, which is a big change. Go under "my cruises" to view your reservation on RCI website. I just rechecked it on my reservation and its still Cozumel on Wednesday,Belize Thursday.

Jonny,

I'm going this weekend on LoS. This is my third cruise this week of March, and there have been very many spring breakers both times previously. Since I'm not in school anymore, I coordinated with midwest colleges SB instead of Univ. of Florida, which is the week you're going. There should be tons of college age people. You will see all of them in the viking crown late night.

1. Bring your own gatorade, I would suggest the kind you can mix yourself because it takes up so much less space.

2. There are a million posts on here re: alcohol smuggling. I'm bringing between 3 and 5 handles (1.75L) this weekend. I would advise a flask as well to save you from constant trips back to the room.

3. Bring a suit. Cruising is one of the few times you get to dress up for something. Especially if this is your first cruise.

4. Activities. Mostly I take it easy during the day. Sit in hot tub, play ping pong, rock wall, do trivia contests, etc. Night time is good for karaoke, dancing, drinking. Make your own fun!

5. Excursions. Stingray City is excellent, I find Cayman kind of boring but I would not miss Stingray City. In Belize, cave tubing is also great. I'm booked this time with cave-tubing.com, who has gotten good reviews on the boards. I went previously thru RCCL and it was great fun, but the independent operators are cheaper and apparently, better. Never been to Costa Maya, but in Cozumel, go to Carlos n Charlies, but if you're gonna buy any souvenirs, do that first because CnC's is crazy fun and you won't want to leave.

Money is completely dependent on what you decide to do. You could probably take 200 bucks and get by if you wanted to. Or you could spend several grand if you drink and gamble a lot.

If I remember, I'll do a live report for you 3/11 folks next week.
