Port transfers Venice to Trieste

Does anyone have past experience with train travel from Venice to Trieste? We can only see 2nd class seats without allocation. Concerned we won't be able to sit together as need my companions help with luggage. Departure date 15th July on Norwegian Gem.

Only IC and Frecce trains have seat assignments.  Between Venice and Trieste Italotreno's only run of the day is too late if you're boarding the ship that day, but would work if you're going to Trieste the night before.  Their run departs Venice at 18:55 and arrives at 20:56.

 

Trenitalia has a Frecce departing at 10:11 and arriving at 12:10, that should work for you.

We are on the Gem 7 weeks after @bluefish2 and were looking at the same thing - train out of Mestre to Trieste but haven't looked too close at the logistics of getting from FCO to the station in Mestre - looks like either a local bus or a taxi.

 

Maybe easier to get a bus from VCE to Trieste? FLIXBUS goes direct in 2 hours for under 20 Euro (looks to run like 5 times per day?) and it would save schlepping our bags from a bus through the train station 🙂

 

Of course, this assumes you are staying in Trieste pre cruise...
