Littlegoo75 Posted May 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I know I can get help from ya'll on this. I need to start working on my tan, but don't have time to lay outside, not sure if I want to subject myself to the damage of the tanning beds, don't want the streaks from Mystic Tan, and don't want to use those liquid self-tanners because I always miss spots and mess up my elbows and toes. I used to go to a lady that did air-brush tanning as a side job and it was the best thing ever! No stink, no mess, no stains, and it looked great! I don't know where to go around here for that because I recently moved to Northern Virginia a few months ago. This is a different thing than Mystic Tan. If there happens to be anyone around the D.C. area that reads this and knows of a place I can go for this, please let me know. Anyway, I am interested in using those self-tanning towelettes. They look like they work well and are easy to use - I can probably even have the husband do my back for me without being scared of the stuff. Maybe I can get the pasty guy to use them himself ( doubt it) So please, I need your testimonials on this!!! RabidDolly Posted May 18, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Although I can't help you with the towelettes, I did want to mention about the tanning. I myself don't really like to subject myself to the harmful UV rays, but when I go to the tanning bed about 2 or 3 weeks before my cruise I don't go just to look good. I tan in the tanning beds to help my tan get darker so that I won't get burnt so easily in the sun. It works to, the darker you get the more sun your skin will with hold without getting burnt. No I don't tan year round but I do like to tan before I go on vacations. I hate going on vacation and get blistering burnt on the first day I'm in the sun. Just thought you and other women would like to know some of the better points to tanning beds. Happy Tanning!! dtchem1 Posted May 18, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I don't know if there are Hollywood Tanning Salons in N VA, but they have a booth spray-on tanning. I don't know how good it is. I agree with RabidDolly, I usually go to the tanning salons before a vacation, so I am not miserable on my vacation. You always miss one spot with the sunscreen, you know. Littlegoo75 Posted May 18, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I've been there done that, tried everything. I know I can always do the tanning beds as a last resort, and there are plenty by my house, and one next to the gym. However, I loved the airbrushing thing so much! For those who are unfamiliar with it......it's very different than Mystic Tan. You do not stand in a booth and get sprayed. Somebody has the airbrush gun thing with a bottle of solution attached, and they spray you all over the body. Then you stand in front of fans for 10 minutes to insure that you are all dried. Then you get dressed and go. It doesn't come off on your clothes, it doesn't smell, and it lasts. The thing is, you need to get it done 3 times in one week, and then do it once to twice a week to maintain. The more you do it, the darker you get, and the longer it lasts. It's not cheap, but it is worth it. If you are too shy to stand in your undies or swimsuit in front of the person air-brushing you, you probably wouldn't like it. I am desperately seeking somebody in the Woodbridge area that does it. that's how great it is. my1stcruise Posted May 18, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I'd love to know where you can buy those towelettes you are talking about. How funny, I live in Woodbridge too! Sorry I don't know where to do the airbrushing. It sounds great. I used the mystic last year before my wedding. Kind of wished I hadn't... Pianogrl Posted May 18, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I think you're thinking about Tan Towel. I use it all the time. It's a GREAT product...originally made by a guy for his Mother who had cancer so she could still get a tan without the harm of the sun's rays. I get it here in Dallas, but if you don't have access to it where you live, you can always order it online. www.tantowel.com I've ordered it online before also. Pianogrl Posted May 18, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I have gotten them at a spa here in Dallas. It last about 5-7 days...depending & naturally fades. It dries in about 45 seconds & you can put anything on right after you rub the towel on you (just remember to wash your palms - they do tan too!) I'm sure they have fast shipping. I hope you can get some cause they really are great! Check the website or call them...they might be able to tell you where you could find them close to you. Hope this helps! fascination 5/10 Posted May 18, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I'll put in my two cents on the tanning beds. I think a careful process of gradually increasing your base is a great way to prepare for the Caribbean sun. I'm a fair-skinned Irish girl and without going to tanning I'd have a peeling red nose, regardless of the amount of sunscreen I use. I went to 8 sessions (every other day before my cruise) got a great base, and I found I could use a 4 spf on my legs, 6 on the rest of me and 15 for face and lips on my trip, I never burned. Now, back four days I'm really tan and not peeling! Remember how powerful that sun is down there, and it was hot and humid (well in the 90's in Cozumel and Key West). My SO, who's afraid of the tanning beds, was constantly reapplying lotion that seemed to sweat right off. A bad burn for him would have ruined both of our trips! LOL! Littlegoo75 Posted May 20, 2004 Author #21 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Yeah, I think I will have to resort to the tanning beds. I can go to Hollywood Tans right next door after I'm done at Bally's. In Charge thanks for the info! I just don't know if I have time to drive to get the air-brushing done. I leave the house every morning at 5:30am and after work and the gym, I don't get home until about 7:30pm! It would be a great business venture for someone to take up since it seems that nobody does it in Woodbridge. Hey all you entreprenuers out there!! Start up an airbrush tanning business! In all actuality, it would be a great service for nail salons and hair salons to add on. ( In New Mexico, they actually did it in a candle shop!) I had heard a lot about the tan-towels, and there is another one on the market called So. Beach tan. I am willing to try them, but I am deathly afraid of the orange palms, I'm not very good at applying that self-tanner and I don't want to end up looking like an OOpma Loompa. I have always had good experienced with tanning beds,I just don't want to wake up one morning when I'm 30 something and realize that I look 50 something...gotta worry about the future. I have just heard too many horror stories about Mystic Tan that I don't want to risk it ??????????? November 2004 Carnival Pride 4/27/02 Sitmar Fairsea 4/ 1983 ( I was just a little kid!!) momofmeg Posted May 20, 2004 #22 Share Posted May 20, 2004 HSN sales those tan towels too. They are like $30 plus shipping. They make them sound great but I would like to know if anyone has used them and how good are they? I don't tan in the sun or stay in the sun much because I have a sun senstivity. I don't have to worry about getting sun burnt because I can't stand the sun long enough to get burnt. I always put my lounge chair in the shade and usually don't swim until after 5 p.m. So anyway I would like to try the tan towels. I need something. Napagal1 Posted May 20, 2004 #23 Share Posted May 20, 2004 I love the airbrush tan. I've only done it once, for my last cruise in Feb. It was fantastic. I only went once, and it was plenty dark. Lasted the whole cruise and then some, probably because I was getting sun the whole time. Unfortunately, the co. I used is only here in Fla.
