OnlineMom Posted February 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2006 My family and I will be in Fort Lauderdale (pre-cruise) for less than a day. I have 2 children - ages 5 and 6. An online friend of mine who lives a few minutes from the port wants to get together with us (and her kids - ages 1 and 4) while we're there. We will not have transportation so, most likely, we'll have to do something either at our hotel (Sheraton Yankee Clipper - yuck - I know - I had no control over pre-cruise hotel accommodations) or within walking distance. Are there any parks in the area? Kid friendly restaurants? Thanks in advance!
biensur Posted March 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2006 The City of Ft. Lauderdale has a gorgeous beach, with a park that has some playground equipment, restrooms, tables and a few trees that Wilma didn't take from us. It is our favorite place to hang out, have birthday parties, etc. It is at the south end of the strip, opposite the Raddison at the marina. Another thought is you could take the Jungle Queen River boat cruise. The kids might be a bit young, however and could get bored, but it's a different way to get to chat and look at the city. You can take that to stop #11 the Las Olas Riverfront http://www.riverfrontfl.com/events/index.html that have a number of kid friendly restaurants . From there I would walk with the kids to the Museum of Science and Discovery http://www.mods.org/ , perhaps you can can catch a show at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. http://www.browardcenter.org/. And then there's the King Tut exhibit http://www.moafl.org/.......;)
