Chip was our butler on the summit San Juan on a December cruise in 2018. He was wonderful and is the main reason we continue to cruise retreat class. I believe he was from Romania and I know he preferred the millennium class.

I was wondering whether or not anyone knows who I am referencing and whether or not he is cruising. .

We had Chip the butler on the Summit in November of 2018.  We were on  Summit in January 2019 an Chip was in charge of the pool deck. He told me he got a promotion but, I can't remember what his title was.  I was on the Summit in May and he wasn't in charge of the pool deck.

Ha, when I heard Chip the butler i thought you were talking about using casino chips to tip.  In an alcohol induced evening i thought it was a good idea to take all my cash and use it in the casino.  Well at the end and $33 up, which i consider a win, I didn't cash out.  I tried to tip with chips and saw a very disappointed face.  Apparently staff has a lot of explaining to do if they want to cash in chips, as they could be stolen from the room.  It was totally a no problem, I was able to cash out and tip in cash.  Wont make that mistake again.  Bless our hard working crew, and already have cash ready for our next cruise, won't take it to the casino

That's the first I've heard of that.  I've always tipped in chips, and I've always been thanked with a smile.  At least, that's with the dealers and the casino servers.  For the dealers, the chips go into a lockbox at the table, and they are distributed afterwards--no question as to where they came from.  I'm not sure how it's been handled for the servers.

That said, I'll keep what you said in mind when I'm next in the casino.

Now, I wouldn't try to tip a butler or anyone outside the casino in such a manner, as I see how that could raise questions and, perhaps, put someone in an awkward position.
