roberts2005 Posted June 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2022 First time to Trieste. Looking to visit Miramare. Is this something that can be easily done on your own? if not, any other suggestions for things to do in Tieste?
edinburgher Posted June 21, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2022 (edited) We took a public bus there and back. It is a more or less straight road which ran alongside the sea for the most part. Ask the driver to tell you when you reach the nearest stop to Castello Miramare. Edited June 21, 2022 by edinburgher

edinburgher Posted June 22, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 22, 2022 (edited) Sorry, can no longer remember the bus number, but I did find it by searching online for something like "Trieste to Castello Miramare buses". . We had just got off a different bus and the driver said the stop he indicated to get off at would be good for the Miramare bus.If it helps, we think we remember it wasn't a "standalone" stop, more like an interchange as there were several stops alongside each other It wasn't a long journey but it wasn't just 10 or 15 minutes either. Guesstimate would be no more than 30 minutes, maybe a bit less, but we were not really timing it. Once you have a bus number,(and even without the actual number) there is usually a local bus operator website which shows the route, timetable and fares. it wasn't difficult as Miramare is so well known locally. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tthis is my post from aTrieste thread a couple of months ago. You can find all previous threads by using the search button. We bought day tickets and took the public bus up to a small hilltop town above Trieste, which I think was called Opatija. There was not a great deal to see or do there (for us) so we didn't linger long, but the views from up there were fabulous. All of Trieste and the sea spread out below, and we thought the views alone were worth the ride. There is a quite famous tram which runs that route, although it was closed for repair when we visited and buses had been substituted. If the tram is up and running again, that would be quite a fun ride. Once back in Trieste we used our day tickets again and took a public bus along to Miramare Castle which has a lovely setting and some gardens. Back in town once again we explored some of Trieste itself. I think you will find enough to keep you occupied for a day. euro cruiser Posted June 22, 2022 #6 Share Posted June 22, 2022 (edited) There is a train station (Miramare) 1 km/one half mile from the castle that can be reached from Trieste Centrale in ten minutes for less than 2 euro. More info on the castle: HOME | Museo storico e il Parco del Castello di Miramare (beniculturali.it) One note: Miramare is an elevated station and I don't see any indication that elevators are available, so you'd need to be able to climb a flight of stairs to use it. If that's an issue a bus would be a better alternative. Here is the current bus schedule: linea_06_TS_Gioberti-Grignano_estate_2022_12GIU-11SET.pdf Edited June 22, 2022 by euro cruiser
