AKStafford Posted June 28, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2022 It's summer. It's Alaska. There's wildfires. Most burn in areas were no one lives, so they are generally allowed to burn. Creates smoky conditions down wind.
Northern Aurora Posted June 29, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2022 While I am posting from a cruise ship I check the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner website daily. When we flew out on June 16th we were receiving smoke from a small fire north of Fairbanks and the fires near the community of Anderson (off the Parks Highway north of Healy) were starting. And we were also receiving smoke from the tundra fires near St. Mary’s. Alaska Fire Service has predicted a possible record season of acreage consumed by wild land fires. Those of us who live there are preparing for a smoky summer.
abouna Posted June 29, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2022 Fires in Fairbanks, rock slides in Skagway, masks on the ships again. Oh geez, we picked Alaska this summer to stay away from all the troubles in the world! 😂
