What to do in Miami after cruise?

Our flight doesn't depart from Miami until 3:40pm after our cruise next weekend. If I'm not mistaken to do the ship's excursion your flight needs to be 4 pm or later correct? We are planning on just carrying off our luggage since it's just a 3 day and will only have a small suitcase. Because of that I imagine more than likely we will be off the ship fairly early.

Any suggestions on things to do rather than sit at the airport? Any place you'd recommend that we could take a taxi to for a while?

Thanks all!

Actually, we've done all the post-cruise excursions and arrived at the airport between 1 and 1:30. Maybe that's a fluke but it was our experience.

I really think those post-cruise excursions are a marvelous way to end the cruise and make the transition to the real world a little bit easier.

You'll get off the ship early, they tote your luggage around whereever you go, they'll some free time for a snack or lunch depending on which tour you take.

It's about the most painless way of getting off the ship and filling time till your flight that there is I think.

Happy Cruising

I have the same question. Although our flight isn't until nearly 5:30 so we have an even longer gap to fill. We considered some of the post cruise excursions provided by Carnival, but have come to the conclusion that it will be more cost effective to just rent a van for about $40 and kill some time on our own. But I've still yet to figure out what we will do and are open to suggestions. Anyone have any ideas? We're flying out of FLL, so we would probably rather stay in the Fort Lauderdale area. I'll be checking back here for replys.

So I can take the Everglades tour even though my flight leaves before 4pm? I know someone said they got back to the airport around 1 but I didn't know if Carnival would ask about it. Does it matter?

Last week on the Triumph they said the Miami tours were for people with flights after 3pm. My wife and I did the Everglades tour as well. It was terrific. They loaded us on an air conditioned bus with less than 40 other people, so it wasn't too crowded. We got a nice airboat ride and saw aligators, turtles, birds, and a deer. After that there was a short show and the opportunity to have your picture taken holding a small aligator. Then there was time for a walking tour around the park to see more aligators, crocodiles, turtles, and of course do a little shopping for souvineers and grab a snack. We were back at the airport by 1:30pm If you've never been to the Everglades, and you have a flight after 3pm I highly recomend this tour.

I suggest taking a cab across the bridge and visiting the Bayside Marketplace or taking a cab over to Villa Viscaya and tour the mansion. It's beautiful and has beautiful gardens and a lot of history. It's an Italian villa and is really really beautiful and interesting. You can also take a cab and go to Coconut Grove and have lunch at Monty's right on the bay.

If you're coming down during the summer, I don't recommend the Everglades...too hot and buggy.

If you're coming down in the fall after it starts cooling off again, the Everglades and the Miccosukee Indian village is a nice tour and take an airboat ride from the tribe out there. They'll take you flying through the Glades and you'll see things you may never have seen before.

Sail Time!!!

The South Beach post-cruise tour is good too. It's basically just a ride from the port to South Beach. They store your luggage and you are own your own. It's offered to people departing from both FLL and MIA. There is so much to do at SB...something for everyone. Plus, you are off the ship first as well. It's a great way to enjoy the last few hours of your cruise. Nothing worse than getting off the ship and having to wait hours at the airport. On our cruise in March 2003, there were many people who did this post-cruise excursion.

If leaving out of Ft.Lauderdale you can always go to Las Olas lots of things check out there as well as places to eat like CheeseCake Factory, Mangos many many more .

Also if in Miami check out South Beach..there is a placed called Mangos down near Clevelander Hotel on ocean drive..they have awesome Burgers that could feed two they are huge and delicious and also got some crazy dancin on the bars as well. My kids love it there!! Has great Tropical feel to it and live bands that rock as well!! There is many choices along South Beach this one just happened to be one of my Favorites when we went down. Oh and the Clevelander has great Happy hour Appetizers and drinks as well and they have a big nice area where you can sit outside and around the bar and pool and look out at the ocean thru the trees across the street. And if you go down a little more south Of Clevelanders you can see Versaci's(sp?) Mansion(photo Op) Plus all the other great Art Deco Buildings as well around to check out.. they all have some great history behind them.

Friends we traveled with did the Everglades tour, and they loved it. Inexpensive, and something fun to do to kill some time.

You can book it through the ship.
