Land first Hotel Check in question(s)

My wife and I leave on Sunday for 3 days on the land with Princess before embarking on the Grand for our Inside Passage cruise.  I just noticed that within our documentation it shows us arriving at the McKinley Princess Wilderness lodge at around 1:30pm.  And on the next day we get to McKinley Chalet Resort (this just changed this week for us) at 12:30pm.  But both list the check in times at 4pm.  

Is this accurate?  If so...what do you usually do before check in at the resorts? 

We also have a natural history tour into Denali from 2-7pm the day we get to the McKinley Chalet Resort.  Does this mean that we have no chance to get into a room to change or freshen up for the trip?  And that we wouldnt be able to check in until return from the 5 hour trip sometime after 7pm?
