Western Carib in December weather?

For those of you who have taken a December western Carib cruise, what kind of weather have you experienced? We have never done this itinerary during December and I am wondering if it is rainier, more prone to storms during this month than during February, when we usually cruise. Also, we have never cruised out of New Orleans or Galveston before and I am wondering about the ease of leaving from these ports. Any advice would be appreciated.
