Port Everglades.

Our boat arrives in port at 7am, or flight isn't until 530pm. what can we do to kill time, and where can we store our luggage? (looking to do all this as cheaply as possible)

I have read about the boardwalks, and shopping. Can you realisticly spend 5-6 hours in port everglades (we'll catch a ride from the port to the airport) and more importantly...what do you do with your bags while your playing in the port?

thanks!

The port, surrounded by either water or high barbed wire fences is literally a place to get on or off a cruise ship, unload cargo ships and freighters, load fuel tankers. You don't want to spend time here. Anywhere else is a cab ride away (either land or water).

Luggage will be your issue. For security reasons, no luggage can be stored within the port by passengers. You can rent a day room at a local hotel on 17th Street (1 mile from port) but these rooms are very hard to come by. Most people trying to do things on their own rent a car to hold their bags or take a ship tour.

I really suggest you take a ship organized post cruise tour that ends at the airport. It includes your transfer to the airport, so that offsets some of the cost, but more importantly you get to go somewhere and not worry about your luggage that is held securely on the bus. I recommend the everglades tour. By the way, the port may be called Port Everglades, but it is 30 miles east of the start of the actual everglades.
