Has anyone been to Sabal Playa in Nuevo Vallarta recently?  Can you get a day pass?

We were there a few times last winter. Yes they offer a daypass. At that time they charged Pesos 500 for the pass per person, meals and drinks are extra. The restaurant is very good, decent prices. They offer a pool, private beach, nice location

thank you.  A couple of questions.  Did you reserve ahead of time?  how far is it from the port and did you just grab a taxi there?  thx

We did not make a reservation, but it is recommanded in high (winter) season.  You will need a cab or order an Uber to get there. It might take about 30 minutes one way depending traffic. (Uber not on the return however).  My best guess is a cab might cost about Pesos 300,- if you take one from opposite the terminal near Walmart. Always make your price before entering. Cabs at the port charge per person in US$, they are more expensive and also  cannot pick you up on the return. We live in Vallarta during winter we have our own car there.

Can you explain what you mean by "cannot pick you up on the return".  So you can't get a cab back from this resort?

Yes you can but not the ones that brought you there. Since Sabal Playa is in the state of Nayarit no cabs from Jalisco can pick you up. You need one from Nayarit, but I am sure Sabal Playa can call one for you or just wait along the street to get one. As far as I know Uber still has problems in Nayarit too.

Taxi rules are pretty strict. As Ine pointed out, the resort is in the Mexican state of Nayarit while Vallarta is in Jalisco state.  Taxis are licensed to pick up passengers in their respective areas and deliver them just about anywhere; however, they are not allowed to pick up passenger outside their area.  The taxi that takes you to the resort will have to return empty.  Same applies to the Nayarit taxi that will bring back to the port.  This will affect the cost of transport both ways.

There "should" be a board in the resort lobby that lists the cost to common destinations.  This should let you know, in advance, what the cost of the return trip will be.

While Vallarta has hundreds of taxis operating throughout the city, I have no idea how the system works out in Nuevo Vallarta.  You might consider making arrangements with the resort concierge, on arrival, to make sure a taxi is available to bring you back.

Enjoy! . . .
