Hi-

Taking our 5 year old on the Millenium to Europe May 14 2006 cruise and was wondering -for those of you who have been on Celebrity or the Millenium itself-what is the in-room babysitting like? can you hire private babysitter during the day? Did you feel comfortable with the babysitters they had? Can you request a certain sitter? do you remember how much it cost ? any info on this topic would be extremely helpful! thank you!

Also-anyone bringing their kids on this trip please go sign in on roll call so we can get together!

We have used in-cabin babysitting numerous times during many of our cruises with Celebrity. It is $8/hr. Here is some information straight from Celebrity's own website: Babysitting on board Celebrity

The babysitters are basically female crew members who are off duty. We have yet to find a babysitter that was assigned to us that we did not like. If you like a certain sitter, Celebrity will try to get you the same person but to ensure this you need to ask. When you call Cabin Services to arrange for a sitter, they ask for 24 hrs notice which also helps them to schedule the person you want. We have asked for sitters inside of the 24 hr notification period with no problem although I imagine you are taking your chances when you do that. We have been able to get sitters during the day and night. The hardest time to get a sitter is for the 1st night of the cruise because all the crew members are busy getting the ship turned around.

One unknown tip: many of the crew who work for subcontractors are not on the list that the ship draws from for babysitting. For example the women who work at the spa, casino, and many of the retail shops are not on the list. So if you are having trouble finding a sitter or one you like through the normal channels, just mention your needs at the spa or casino and you will find someone that will be very eager to do it. We did just that on our first two cruises with very satisfactory results! Finally, you should do a Search on the Celebrity boards and you will find quite a few babysitting comments (all of them positive if I remember correctly) from many other Celebrity cruisers which will give you additional perspective.
