anyone know the rates to call canada from the ship

i am leaving on march 5 on AOS and will need to contact work daily, thought about a satellite phone but the cost seemed to high.

Ship to shore telephone rates are about $9.00 per minute. In some ports you can use a cell phone, and if you use a phone card the rates are much cheaper. The best way to keep in touch is by using the internet. There are a number of computers available on board, and the cost was $0.50 per minute. You can download and print your email if you desire. The internet is usually available through a satelite link, and is proably your best bet. I would suggest you set up a contact time, and coordinate with the technician on board. I believe that you can use a lap top on board if you have one.

On a different note, has anyone tried using skype from their laptop? Should work fine when using the ships broadband connection and would be a very cheap way to phone home.
