quagmire0 Posted March 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2006 I was reading the cover article about the response to the Genesis Class ship that RCCL is developing and saw the comment about a dog/cat kennel, and I was thinking....why not?!? I mean, you'll have all that space - why not have a dog playground/boarding area? You could also include an area for walking the dogs and all that. RCI would make money, and dog owners wouldn't need to find separate accommodations. I guess the only issues you would have to address would be: 1. getting the dogs on and off the ship and 2. Do dogs/cats get seasick? :D
Jtd724 Posted March 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2006 There will be no room, its double the size of voyager and double the people. The space ratio will still be the same.
bplazo Posted March 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2006 As much as I love my four furry babies, it is nice to go on a cruise and get away from the responsibility for a week!
time4u2go Posted March 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2006 I guess the only issues you would have to address would be: 1. getting the dogs on and off the ship and 2. Do dogs/cats get seasick? :D Our dog used to get carsick, so I would guess they can get seasick too. That wouldn't be too good since they really couldn't tell you that they feel bad, and you really couldn't do anything for it anyway.:(
ORANGEinINDY Posted March 3, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2006 I have thought about dogs on the ship before. We love our three fur-balls, but not sure we'd want to bring them. One of the ideas I had were a grass Helipad... one of our girls wont go on the fake stuff
crusinmama06 Posted March 3, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2006 You know the old NCL SS Norway, when it was the France had a dog kennel and a promenade for the dogs. The only reason I know that is because the camp counselor told us the kids camp room used to be the dog kennels. I wonder if that would actually take off though? Most would have to fly with their dogs, then board them on the cruise. I love my poochies but they are better off on solid ground.
taraandsean Posted March 3, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 3, 2006 well I am hoping the idea is not twice the passengers, maybe add another 50 staterooms but just add more stuff and activities , bars , sports activities, bigger fresh water pools ect. but if they try to add twice the staterooms to make more money it will turn out badly for rccl , keep it voyager size as far as passengers and make it as big as possibleand it will work. charge twice the price per passenger and make the state rooms twice the size , all balconys no inside cabins . Make the clubs, windjammer, pool area, casinos, cabins, bathrooms, balconies much larger along with adding whatever new features they have planned and incorporate more outside areas and glass views like the Radiance class ships. negc Posted March 3, 2006 #12 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Well they have already revealed the approximate number of passengers the ship will carry, so hopes for only 50 more cabins aren't realistic. Given the cost to build the ship, they have to maximize the passenger complement to recoup their cost. However, the passenger/space ratio should still be much better than it is on their older ships, so if they design her properly, it should not feel crowded. I agree that I would like to see more of a Radiance style ship than an even larger Voyager style, but that doesn't seem to be the way that RCI is going. Perhaps critical reviews of the Freedom, when it begins sailing, will play a role in the ultimate design of Genesis.
taraandsean Posted March 3, 2006 #13 Share Posted March 3, 2006 rccl should poll the cruisers and find out what we want to pay for , if they build it like cruisers want it we will pay good to use it and they will get there money for the ship. They need to start mixing the itierarys up a little but thats a different topic. Jtd724 Posted March 3, 2006 #14 Share Posted March 3, 2006 The design is already set for genesis, they dont sign billion dollar deals on ideas, the blueprints are down, the only tweaking would be colors, art designs and placement. I think the minimum occupancy is 5400 with a capacity of 6200 or something like that. I agree totally with maybe adding from 3500 passengers on Voyager to maybe 4000-4200 people on the Genesis class. That would be a great space ratio. But the truth is, the deal is done, the blueprints are set.
