care1623 Posted March 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2006 My fiance and I are not big drinkers, but do plan to indulge in a few cocktails while onboard  This seems like a very naive question, but do the cruise lines typically allow you to bring alcohol on board? We're just trying to think of ways to save money here and there.... It doesn't make much sense for them to allow that, since that would mean less revenue for them, but I had to ask! Thanks for any info!
suzeyQ Posted March 3, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2006 No, they don't permit it. Some cruiselines do sell alcohol in the gift shop (for quite a reasonabe price) that you can take back to your cabin. Others don't let you do that.
Trevoli Posted March 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2006 they don't "allow" it. I think that some cruise lines are OK with you bringing a bottle or two of wine or champagne (I've always brought a bottle of champagne and have never had it confiscated; in fact, the cabin steward always keeps it on ice). That being said, however, many people find a way to bring soft drinks, beer, and hard liquor on board. Right or wrong, it is done. T
Andee Posted March 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Oceania has no restrictions on bringing alcohol on board.

bflowngs Posted March 3, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Basically they do not check your carry on luggage as you board....so what ever you take on is ok. The cabin stewards really don't care what you do,and are not about to report you since they depend on your tips.
Cotton Posted March 3, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Hi Care, and welcome to the boards.:) It really helps if folks say which cruiseline they will be on. Easier to answer specifics. On Carnival, for instance.... They do allow a few bottles of wine/champagne to be brought onto the ship at embarkation only, as well as a reasonable amount of soft drinks and bottled water. Not a problem with any of those beverages. However, beer and liquor are specifically mentioned as No-Nos. Many people do this anyway, and it seems the safest way is to pack it well in your checked luggage. They DO check carry-on luggage, and will remove any liquor or beer. IF your liquor happens to be discovered in your checked luggage, it may be confiscated and returned to you on the last day. About buying bottles of booze on the ship - on Carnival - If you purchase it in the ship's shop, they will hold it for you, and deliver it to your cabin on the last evening. You are not allowed to take it to your cabin. Hope this helps.:)
celbercrz333 Posted March 6, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 6, 2006 Care, We've done both Celebrity Zenith and Carnival Fascination and smuggled liquor on board both times. We left it in plain sight on our bureau in the room and both times we weren't ratted out. ONe reason for that is that the room stewards want to be tipped well. Here's what you do. You buy cheap whiskey in plastic bottles (they are getting more available). And you put this in your Packed Luggage. Then bring along those powdered drink mixes. We take along a plastic water bottle that has it's own "sleeve" such as the one by Rubbermaid. Then we fill it with the whiskey, some tap water and the drink mix. You will get ice and cups in your room. We bring along a tote bag that folds flat. When we go to the pool, we took our homemade liquor drink with us and hide it in the tote bag. We would have never tempted to do this except that everyone here told us we could and we are glad we did. We still bought some drinks on board both times, so the cruise lines shouldn't feel cheated.
