Rare plainsstormchaser Posted October 19, 2022 Author #52 Share Posted October 19, 2022 And now, live from Juneau, it's Tracy's King Crab Shack! Crab bowl, $28. The cashier said the season has gone well. They're closing the door for the season when we depart....she said "can't imagine why they're still sailing trips this late, weather's horrible." Rare plainsstormchaser Posted October 21, 2022 Author #57 Share Posted October 21, 2022 (edited) Today was Glacier Bay day. I was surprised that most of my photos with the DSLR turned out looking like they were shot in black and white. Everything is the same settings, and as you can see the above one has the distinctive blue of a glacier showing. This one, however, is totally missing that. But I think it really made the photos a bit more striking to have that B&W appearance, so I'm not disappointed. We also got to see a couple of whale spouts, which was cool. My photos aren't the greatest, but this one does seem to capture it. I thoughroughly enjoyed the day, though I think I like Hubbard Glacier better than Johns Hopkins Glacier. Maybe that's just because it is the first one...but I don't think that expains all of it. Rare plainsstormchaser Posted October 21, 2022 Author #59 Share Posted October 21, 2022 Today: Ketchi-kan't. As in "take the 45 minute MCI racecar ride (bus) for a 1-hour sit down meal, to get back on the bus for the 45 minute race to the ship." Seriously, this port schedule just Does. Not. Work. One of the best ports of the whole itinerary turned into...well, something much less enjoyable. George Inlet Lodge sits on some very pretty scenery.... The food? Delish! But I sure wish there was time to shop downtown! This is likely to be my only time on this itinerary if NCL doesn't make changes to Ketchikan that allow for more time to enjoy this stop.

Rare plainsstormchaser Posted October 23, 2022 Author #62 Share Posted October 23, 2022 Turn around day as a back to back guest: mostly a good experience. But of course one part of it had to be similar to the airport or shore-side security...the gathering up, sequestered from even the rest of the Manhattan, sitting and waiting. Rare plainsstormchaser Posted October 24, 2022 Author #66 Share Posted October 24, 2022 Unfortunately the mood today matches the weather...grey. Roxan has to take a call during the Meet & Mingle at which some important decisions may need to be made or at least discussed. Without going into too much detail, the concerns involve end of life issues that have come up more quickly than expected. We know we have the support of the entire group if needed, and that's a comfort. At least for now, we're electing to keep the details private.

We're having to fly home because her dad is declining in health much faster than anyone thought. Rare plainsstormchaser Posted October 26, 2022 Author #73 Share Posted October 26, 2022 We're remaining onboard for the time being. Things have improved somewhat for Roxan's dad, and it's enough we can stay on board and play things day by day. There are only a couple of the stops during the trip that would not be safe to transit from the cruise areas to the airport, otherwise we have a way home figured out from all the remaining stops. Rare plainsstormchaser Posted October 26, 2022 Author #75 Share Posted October 26, 2022 I did not. It must have been minor, our Bay Area co-worker did not say antying about it. I'd imagine we'd need a fairly strong one to feel on the ship.
